Charming chateau hotel

We were delighted with our spacious rooms. The furniture was original - beautiful cabinetry-- not quite enough space for folded items but we managed. Walking around the grounds we found rows and rows of young apple trees, one cherry tree and some rabbits in cages. Not a long walk to the village but the 2 lane road had no sidewalks. Caring staff and not far from many interesting places in the area.

We booked at Domaine de la Vitrolle after reading Martin Walker's detective-in-the-Dordogne series, Bruno, Chief of Police. While Bruno was not there to welcome us, we had a great experience. Our room was very large, so large my husband got lost in the middle of the night, because it is also very dark - no ambient light coming in from outside - and very quiet. The bed was very comfortable, good pillows, good linens. We loved having extra room for sitting and a table and chairs for eating dinner. The bathroom was huge, with stained glass windows. We loved the breakfast with fresh croissants and pain au chocolate, meats, cheeses, and apple juice pressed from apples grown on site. We stayed three nights, and found it to be a great value for the space and the lovely experience. The location is so close to the old prehistoric caves, to many castles, and to little towns specializing in geese (fois gras) and truffles. There are three large grocery/department stores in nearby LeBugue (5 minutes) and several good restaurants nearby.

impressive rooms and building

we stayed for 1 night visiting Limeuil. The hotel has nice surroundings, although a bit far from Limeuil (5-10 min. by car). The room was large and impressive as well as the breakfast room, with a huge fireplace. Breakfast OK, but simple and french.

WOW, so much fun starting this great place !

Just near Limeuil, we stayed in this great, great place for a week, us and our 3 kids family, as a starting point for a daily trips at the Dordogne.
The staff is friendly, extremely nice and will do anything to help you out (though don't speak a single English word, so prepare your French). For example, we had to leave early back to Paris on our check-out day, so they agreed to have the villa check on the day before and got us our deposit back with no issue.
The kitchen is nice (old stove!), and Le Bugue is a good place for food shopping (Intermarche).
At Limeuil, the boulangerie was always closed (and is 5 minutes car drive), so you can order baguettes and croissants each day for the next morning... (!!!). We did several times, and had a nice and fresh bread for sandwiches to take-out.
Also, local made wines and fois-gras are sold at the reception.
Excellent pool to end warm and long days.
Only good words, surely will be back!

I've died and gone to heaven!

This place was incredible and it only cost 108 euro for 2 nights b&b! The approach was down a long straight drive to the impressive steps up to the main entrance of the chateau. My room was sustantial with period furnishings and a most comfortable bed. The ensuite, with its enormous bath, was the size of a normal bedroom. The breakfast was served in a period dining room and was good value.
