This is French life, just relax.

Beautiful park, the houses are privately owned so the decoration may vary per house. Several nice markets nearby, lakes for the kids and at least 9 golf courses from half an hour to an hour drive.
Rafting is possible in the pyrenees and in winter you can ski here.
Park unfortunately does not have a restaurant, but there are dozens of restaurants in the area where you can have lunch or dinner for not too much. Especially the well-known 3 course lunch, including, wine and sometimes an aperitif between 15 and 30EUR per person depending on the restaurant. You won't find this anywhere in the Netherlands. A jug of fine wine for 6EUR or coffee for 1.50. It's still possible.
Chateau de Barbet has tennis courts, fitness pools and a sauna. In summer sometimes a BBQ or party night, but not too much.
Bakeries galore nearby and supermarket 3 km.
This is the place to unwind.

Disappointment

Faded glory! Rented house was filthy and not maintained. The restaurant is no longer in use and neither is the adjacent golf course. Park itself is well maintained. Swimming pool okay. Houses are often owned by French people who now live there permanently.

We were at first delighted with lovely spacious new home with full kitchen, living room and terrace but stayed only for 20 minutes because we discovered many thumbtacks as you can appreciate in the photos. The manager was very kind and tried to help us even at that late hour (midnight) but unfortunately the same thing was occurring all around.
Routine pest control is highly recommended.

Terrible customer service at golf course

I am a local resident and I bought a carnet of 10 rounds for 180 Euros a few years back, and last played 4 years ago because I injured my back and then my shoulder and have been unable to play since. I went back on Monday and asked them to check how many rounds I had left (I think I had as many as 4 left). I was asked my name and the man then went and got out his file. To my surprise I was told that they would not honour the carnet I had purchased because the management of the golf course had changed hands 3 years ago. The man told me that I could not come back and expect them to honour the carnet. The man spoke to me quite rudely, was not in the slightest apologetic and just came across as being greedy. I asked him why he had asked for my name if he was not going to honour the carnet and he had no answer. He repeated that he was not going to honour my carnet. I told him that I would therefore not come back. I shall go to Lannemezan or Teoula which are better courses anyway and have 18 holes. Lannemazen also has a great restaurant .I have just checked the website of golf de Barbet and see that they still sell carnets of 10 rounds. What customer service !
