Fight to the death at breakfast
We stayed overnight on our way to the Alps, and I wasn’t expecting too much from it as it was literally just to break up the journey.
I booked a room for 2 adults and 2 kids. The kids’ bed was a shared small sofa bed, and wasn’t big enough for a 10 year old boy and 6 year old girl to share without kicking the living daylights out of each other. It also only had one pillow (another fight) and there was only 3 towels. It was getting late and we’d lost the will to live by that point so we decided to just suck it up.
Evening meal was actually quite nice, fresh, lots of choice, seasonal etc - but breakfast?! Problem was there wasn’t any! My husband is sat here and wants me to write “fight to the death” hahah! Some pancakes came out and you’d think some of these people had never seen food before! There was a basket with fruit and kids were grabbing an armful and disappearing off into the tables like feral animals! They ran out of eggs, pastries, pancakes and bread (At 8.40 so not particularly early or late) I understand a rush can happen, but we gave it half an hour after asking staff, and no more food arrived so we gave up and just got on the road.
I can laugh now, but with two hungry kiddos who wanted more than an apple each alongside their travel-sick tablets, I wasn’t laughing at the time.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We are sincerely sorry that your overnight stay did not provide the comfortable and relaxing stop you expected.
We regret the condition and overcrowding of the swimming pool during your visit, as well as the insufficient number of towels and pillows provided in your room. These oversights should have been identified before your arrival, and your comments have been shared with our housekeeping team.
We are particularly sorry about your experience at breakfast. At 8:40 a.m., the buffet should have remained fully stocked, and waiting more than thirty minutes without adequate replenishment is not acceptable. We fully understand how frustrating this must have been, especially when travelling with two hungry children. Your feedback has been passed on to our restaurant and management teams so that the organisation and replenishment of the buffet can be reviewed.
We are nevertheless pleased that you enjoyed your evening meal and appreciated the freshness, variety and seasonal selection offered.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the shortcomings encountered during your stay.

Merci d’avoir pris le temps de partager votre expérience. Nous sommes sincèrement désolés que votre repas n’ait pas répondu à vos attentes.
Nous regrettons que la présence importante de guêpes ne vous ait pas permis de profiter de la terrasse dans de bonnes conditions. Nous sommes également désolés de votre déception concernant le choix proposé, la qualité des plats servis, ainsi que les délais d’attente et le manque d’organisation que vous avez ressentis en salle.
Vos remarques détaillées concernant le saumon, le dessert et le déroulement du service ont été transmises à nos équipes de cuisine et de salle afin qu’elles puissent être analysées et que les améliorations nécessaires soient apportées.
Nous comprenons pleinement votre déception, notamment au regard du montant de l’addition, et regrettons de ne pas avoir su vous offrir l’expérience attendue.

Not worthy of a 4-star hotel
But it was inconclusive... no trash can in the toilet... you have to carry your used towel or used tampon to the bathroom trash can... Presence of yellow streaks on the toilet walls... probably people who don't know how to aim correctly.
No fridge; supposedly you have to book a superior room even though the night is already €240 (2 adults + 2 children)... NB: in Valence (also a 4* Novotel) for a lower rate (same room type), we had a fridge, a complimentary bottle of water, and a carafe to use the water fountains provided. Here, no complimentary bottle of water... nor a carafe for the water fountains... and no water fountains either (or the staff forgets to mention it...)
Connecting door to the other room was open upon our arrival...
2 small hand towels for 4... (in Valence there were indeed 4...)
No safe in the room (even though it was present in Valence)
In the bathroom... the shower jets are deplorable; on the handheld showerhead, only the center works, and on the ceiling showerhead, the jets go in every direction except on us... Furthermore, the tissue dispenser was questionable... it looked like they had just shoved 2-3 tissues in there... No "classic" kit in the bathroom (present in Valence)

Deplorable air conditioning... it is stifling in the rooms.. By setting it to the minimum (5°C), we managed to maintain 21.5°C... that said... a positive point compared to last year... it makes less noise and no longer shuts off on its own.
Breakfast buffet downgraded (or did we arrive after the rush.. even though it was only 8:30 AM).
Billing and payment directly upon arrival and not at check-out...
On the other hand, this year the staff is very kind and attentive, which was not the case last year.
Slight improvement compared to last year, but not sure we will return next year given the quality/service/price ratio

La propreté des toilettes, la porte communicante laissée ouverte, le nombre insuffisant de serviettes, l’état de la housse de couette ainsi que les différents problèmes constatés dans la salle de bain ne correspondent pas aux standards que nous souhaitons garantir. Vos remarques ont été transmises aux responsables des services concernés afin que des vérifications et les actions correctives nécessaires soient réalisées.
Dans le cadre de notre démarche environnementale, les réfrigérateurs ont été retirés de nos chambres classiques et restent disponibles dans nos chambres Executive. De même, les bouteilles d’eau en plastique ne sont plus proposées en chambre, des fontaines à eau étant normalement accessibles dans les couloirs. Nous regrettons vivement que leur emplacement ne vous ait pas été indiqué lors de votre arrivée.
Nous prenons également en considération vos remarques concernant la climatisation, les équipements de la chambre et le réassort du buffet du petit-déjeuner. Concernant le règlement du séjour, celui-ci peut être demandé à l’arrivée selon les conditions du tarif réservé. Nous comprenons néanmoins que cette pratique ait pu vous surprendre.
Les équipements et prestations pouvant varier d’un établissement Novotel à l’autre, nous entendons parfaitement votre comparaison et surtout votre déception au regard du tarif de votre séjour. Nous vous remercions cependant d’avoir souligné la gentillesse et l’écoute de notre équipe cette année. Vos compliments lui seront transmis avec plaisir.
Nous regrettons que les améliorations constatées n’aient pas été suffisantes pour vous convaincre pleinement et espérons malgré tout pouvoir regagner votre confiance à l’avenir.

Unfortunately, the air conditioning in our room wasn’t working properly, and the temperature stayed around 30°C throughout the night. We were told there was nothing that could be done to fix it. The reception kindly provided us with a fan, which we appreciated, but it wasn’t enough to make the room comfortable for sleeping.
The excellent service from the staff deserves praise, but the issue with the air conditioning had a significant impact on our stay.
