Nice stay
Brilliant location and very welcoming and friendly owner. Comfortable room, well equipped and very clean. Honest breakfast. We had dinner there the first evening with salad, cassoulet and dessert not to mention good wine. It was great. And for the evenings when the owner is not serving table d'hôte, it is possible to eat very well right next door for cheap. We are delighted with our stay and highly recommend this establishment.

Very bad experience at the house Rives.
We discover on arrival that a room other than the one we have booked has been allocated to us without prior notice. We had booked a triple room in order to have 2 separate beds and ended up with a room with a single double bed.The reason given by the host was that our room was given to other guests who wanted to stay an extra night. (We chose this rental precisely because it offered a triple room.)
Regarding the condition of the room, the shutters of two windows are unusable. The bedroom is not heated, the bathroom heating cannot be turned on despite many tests.
When we reported it to the host the next day, he told us that it was necessarily 21 degrees because it is below this temperature that the bathroom heating is supposed to agree to go off. And he condescendingly said “there are people like that” implying that we were probably too chilly. My daughter, who is not chilly and lives in a student apartment where it is on average 19 degrees, had to sleep in a sweater and was very cold. Another “detail” was that there was almost no toilet paper and no spare roll in the bathroom.
The bedding is not comfortable (noisy spring mattress on which we spent a bad night) and the bed linen minimalist which did not help not to be cold.
Finally, we can not say that the welcome was warm, the host being absent (having warned us in the afternoon) on our arrival.
In short, we will not return to it.

Au moment de votre réservation de la chambre "triple", pour 2 personnes, vous avez indiqué la configuration souhaitée : 1 grand lit double. Lorsqu'une famille avec enfant a demandé de rester une nuit supplémentaire, j'ai crû bon vous offrir la grande chambre double avec coin salon et balcon sans frais supplémentaires.
Comme il s'agit d'une maison d'hôtes et non pas d'un hôtel, les accueils se font en semaine à 18h30, après la fermeture de mon magasin. Pour ne pas vous faire attendre et vous être agréable, je vous ai communiqué le code de la boîte à clé pour que vous puissiez accéder dès 16h à votre chambre et vous m'en avez remercié.
Ce jeudi 30 octobre 2024, jour de votre arrivée, il faisait 24 degrés à Montolieu et, la température n'etant pas descendue en dessous des 16 degrés pendant la nuit, il faisait déjà 18 au moment où vous êtes descendues déjeuner. Mais effectivement, la situation dans laquelle vous vous êtes mises en scène au moment du petit déjeuner vous et votre mère, frigorifiées et emmitouflées, a fait un peu rire la salle de restauration et notamment les deux jeunes filles espagnoles en t-shirt assises près de vous. Je m'en excuse et je pensais bien faire en ayant un peu de compassion pour vous avec ma remarque qui n'avait d'autre but que de dédramatiser votre ridicule.

Very cosy house.
Lovely house and village. The owners are also related to the book tradition in the village by a book shop and as editors. Try the restaurant beside. It is a simple one but great by serving organic home made food related to the region.

Great overnight stop
We stayed one night on our journey back to our boat .Charming hostess and delightful room with well equipped bathroom . We had out 2 small dogs with us who were made very welcome and enjoyed the view from the balcony with terrace.

A truly french experience
Our five days st the Maison Rives were quite wonderful. We would like to return with two of our grand children to give them a total french experience, using the Maison Rives and Montolieu as our base. Laurence and Olivier Lecoules were the best of hosts.
