Interesting food in old town

Before coming to Prats we had already decided that we would eat here one night because reviews had been very favourable and so it proved. It was a warm evenng so we sat on the outside terrace in a little square and with excellent friendly service, we were soon perusing the menus with an apéritif and some fine olives. We chose the 16.90€ menu of the day because we really fancied the rabbit main course.After a starter of deep-fried cod balls and squid rings, the braised rabbit with lemon and olives proved a treat. There was plenty of it and it came accompanied by crushed potatoes. The duo of desserts consisted of a deliciously gooey chocolate cake with cream and a glass containing poached pear floating in a Banyuls red wine reduction. With coffee and a bottle of very nice Rousillon winethe bill came to about 65€. Definitely a place to recommend.

excellent food in a beautiful place

Prat de Mollo is situated in the Pyrenees. It is a beautiful town, with winding lanes. We ate at the Hotel Ausseil, the menu was varied. Various set menus and a la carte, in french and english, I chose the Catalan menu which was excellent.
The staff where very helpful and efficient, the food wine and coffee was excellent.

A lovely small hotel

We stayed as part of our Pyrenees walk with Peregrine Tours. We found the hotel to be delightful and charming. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a larger place (eg. no hairdryer in the room), but it was a lovely little hotel. The building was built over 100 years ago, and yes the floor slants a bit, but it was fun to be right in the middle of this wonderful old town. The only negative thing for us was the big light outside our window (we faced onto the square), but that went off eventually and with the curtains shut, was no major problem. The bathroom was basic, but huge and clean. The bed was firm but comfortable with crisp clean linen.
We found the hotel keepers to be very nice and helpful, despite not having much English. We enjoyed our set menu at night and breakfast was great with the fresh warm rolls and croissants.
All up it was a charming and pleasant place to stay and we felt very welcome.

Great hotel, great price

We chose Hotel Ausseil mainly based on price but also after viewing the room were happy with it - it has more character than other hotels we saw. Arrived in the evening and intended to stay one night, packed up in the morning, took a walk around the town, went back and booked the room for a second night. Yes it's a bit basic in places and the floor slants considerably in places (well it is an old building!) but for the price it is fine - colossal bathroom, comfy beds, clean sheets, window shutters that work, and right in the centre of this amazing little town. Would probably be a bit noisy in high season overlooking a little square where three hotels have dining areas, but there are rooms on the side where the impact would be less. The food was fine - we ate here in the evening as pretty much everywhere else was shut! - again really good value for set menu. You could do a lot worse than stay here, and the owners are lovely and very helpful (don't expect a lot of English spoken). No lift, parking in the main square to the rear of the hotel.

A rather gloomy and antiquated place

We stayed here for one night in the course of a trek through the Pyrenees, with the stay booked by a trek organizer. The hotel is old, dark, and gloomy. The floors of the rooms were slanted. Furnishings are old and worn. We were actually afraid that the bed would collapse under us (and we were not engaged in any strenuous activity...). I should note that the room was acceptably clean. The innkeeper was not very pleasant to us. Dinner was included in our package and it was quite poor. Breakfast was better because they brought fresh baguettes and croissants from the local bakery, but didn't include much else. Look for alternatives.
