Pizza party on the deck!
When we arrived everyone was in the kitchen. We met Jean-Pierre, who was instrumental in creating the amazing dinner...
Dinner options apparently vary widely, but the night we were there they hosted a "pizza party" on the deck (JC said, "Eur 5 pp, no negotiating!"). They had friends who live in Seattle home for a visit, plus neighbors and friends, mostly French speaking, probably two dozen in all! So they thought it would be nice to have an "American style" party - but as an American, I can assure you that it was a thoroughly French evening!
About 5:00 they started firing up the wood burning pizza oven, and by 7:00 Jean-Pierre and an assistant were concocting pizzas with a variety of delicious toppings. You just had to be ready when something came out of the oven - if you like artichokes, you tried to be there for that one, etc. They served a chilled rose wine made by another friend in the south. I chatted with several retiree couples from Paris and DH was taken over by a posse of ladies. It helps if you speak French, but not essential. Jean-Claude speaks fluent English, and Anette's English is as good as my French.
The next morning, J-C had made croissants and pain au chocolat before we got up, and he was preparing a carrefour (like our pound cake) for later that day. Upon learning that DH drinks only decaf coffee, J-C brewed some for him. Coffee in two-handled bowls... DH said best he's ever had (and how can we do this at home?).
Oh, I can't tell you how wonderful it all was! And that's just one afternoon, evening, and morning.
Tip: it will be immensely easier to find if you have a GPS! But it's only about 15 minutes from Guerande.

This is definitely THE place to be for the best stay in this lovely part of France, a source of inspiration for personalized and Caring Service I barely had in my 15 years fligtht attendant career in so called highly stared palaces....
You would be the happiest to catch a reservation for a deluxe week-end at the Balade!

Fantastique
Que dire de la table d'hôte : fabuleux, exquis, divin .... bref un vrai Bonheur. Jean Claude est un cuisinier auto-didacte hors pair. Il nous a régalé de l'apéritif au dessert, idem le lendemain matin avec le petit-déjeuner.
Bref un veritable Bonheur durant 1 court week-end.
