Gateway to the region

We had a fantastic stay of a couple of nights in a large upstairs suite with two long porches before heading to Tetepare. Everything seems very casual and yet works to a tee.
The room was huge but perfect, with A/C which was not much needed because of the cross breeze.
Mariani and the hotel staff got us settled quickly, and everyone was very helpful.
The attractive restaurant is over the water. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all tasty (including fresh-caught mantis shrimp we had brought from a nearby island, tasty fish and chicken, etc.).
The hotel arranged an interesting road tour of the area including WW2 sites, and later some excellent snorkeling. Payment worked fine by credit card, which is not always the case in this Western Province area.
We wish we had more time to stay longer, which is really how you want to feel when you leave a place.

Great Place to Stay

Agnes Gateway Hotel is located in the heart of Munda. You can literally walk from the airport to the Lodge. It is located on the water and has fabulous views over the islands.The dive shop is on the same grounds which makes diving very easy. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
We stayed in one of the individual cottages which was quite large, comfortable and clean. The restaurant which is located nearby has daily specials which are very reasonably priced. The food is excellent and there is a lot of fresh seafood on the menu.
Don't go there expected 5 star or a place that runs like clockwork as it doesn't. Enjoy island time and enjoy the wonderful surrounds ad very happy, friendly locals.

Nice Remote Accommodation

Munda is a little 'off the beaten path' which is why you get such stunning dive sites. Keeping this in mind, Agnes' is not a 3 or 4 star resort, but is beautiful in a natural way. The room we stayed in was very acceptable to us with aircon, fans, bar fridge & shower. The room, although a little tired, was tidied daily with fresh clean linen and towels and we were very comfortable. Our bathroom had some mold and the shower water was not always hot, but to us this is a little expected in the Sols and no big deal, but just be aware. There are also different room options at Agnes from self contained (which we had) to shared rooms and shared bathrooms, so make sure you know what you are booking. The Bar and restaurant area are beautiful and built out over the water with great sea views. Shade along the water is provided from magnificent large trees and you get a feeling of being 'embedded' into nature. If you are diving, then Dive Munda (who are fantastic) is also based on premises at Agnes, so there is no travel required. Agnes also offer tours - we took advantage of the waterfall tour and a WW2 tour - both were magic, but did involve a lot of walking.
The only thing that failed to really impress was the restaurant - we found the food a little bland and very expensive. However, next time we head back to Munda we'll definitely stay with Agnes....

Service.....what is that!
Nice menus unfortunately not much available! Not even fish!!!
Used breakfast plates still on the tables at lunchtime.
I stay here often but worse each time. This was now the worst stay I have had in the Solomons. Unfortunately there are not many options.

Great Diving and Accomodations

We stayed three nights at Agnes Lodge after our dive boat trip. The location of the lodge with the dive shop and restaurant on site was very convenient. Diving was excellent and the shop was very professional. All the staff at the lodge and restaurant were also very nice and helpful.
The room we stayed in was an Ibuibu Cottage which I would recommend over the other smaller rooms. The cottages are stand alone and very basic but there was plenty of room and with all the windows open to let the breeze in there was no need to run the A/C. Would highly recommend the cottage room 22 - we lucked out with this one that is closest to the water and ocean view. Our bed was very comfortable however one of the people we were traveling with staying in a smaller room had a very uncomfortable bed that she could feel the springs through.
There were also land tours available for booking onsite at the lodge (half day or full day). The land tour guide Billy is excellent - very friendly and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend the WWII tour. We also did the salt water croc river tour and waterfall hike which were also good.
Food at the restaurant was decent for how remote the location was although a bit inconsistent. One night the spaghetti Bolognese was excellent and the next night was not - not sure if it was just a different chef or what. The friendliness of the staff made up for it.
