Highly recommended Hotel
A very good hotel to stay at. The place is clean, the staff are friendly, and the views are beautiful. The prices are very affordable, making it great value for money. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Booking Confusion and Price Discrepancy at Check-In
Booked through Agoda with a confirmed reservation and stated price. On arrival, the property initially claimed they had no booking, then later “found it.” They then said they do not accept card payments (not disclosed during booking) and attempted to charge a different amount than what was confirmed.
The manager, who was contacted by phone, suggested canceling the booking instead of resolving the issue and was dismissive during the conversation, which delayed check-in unnecessarily.
The room itself was clean and seemed fairly new, which is a positive. However, the overall experience was overshadowed by poor management, lack of transparency, and an unprofessional check-in process.
Travelers should be cautious and ensure all details are confirmed clearly before arrival.

No security
We had a disappointing stay at your hotel, despite the rooms being clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, the management and service fell short of expectations. Our calls for room service were repeatedly ignored, and we found it difficult to get assistance at the reception or on the floor.
We also had a concerning security experience upon arrival late at night. The tuk-tuk driver was aggressive, and the security guard, who was supposed to be on duty, was found sleeping and under the influence of alcohol. It took multiple attempts to wake him, and he was uncooperative.

Great accommodation
Very nice accommodation, staff and full time security officer.
Sea view from our Suite on the 4th floor. Spacious room with huge bed, table and chairs, desk, fridge and coffee making facility. Nice size bathroom.
Clean and quiet opposite the beach with plenty of restaurants within walking distance.
Would recommend. We stayed 11 nights

I recently visited Colombo for 5 days in October 2025 and stayed at 50 by the Sea - Had an excellent stay there and all my expectations were met - at times went above the expectations also. The apartment looks very new, is very well maintained and most importantly, its extremely clean. Ive visited Colombo many times and many times, I faced the issue of not so clean bathrooms at some residences - at 50 by the Sea, the bathrooms were so clean and neat that it looked like a 5 star hotel's washroom ( I am from luxury hospitality background, so I can assure you of this high, comparable quality at this place ) - The staff were extremely polite and helpful - I had a few encounters with their housekeeping team and security team - very warm, friendly and helpful. I requested for a few things during my stay and got immediate assistance. The Reservations Manager, Ms Shehara is very kind & approachable - she would often call me to check how I was doing and if everything was ok .
The rooms are good in size for single travelers and couples - overlooking the Mt Lavinia beach and beautiful sea view.
Any drawbacks ? Well, depending on what you are looking for :
* The facility doesn't have its own dining outlet - which is not a big issue as there are many outlets nearby , walking distance.
* The accommodation is very close to the Mt Lavinia Railway track so there is plenty of noise - may disturb some and some may find it hard to sleep - for me it was not a big issue
The rooms are good in size for single travelers and couples - overlooking the Mt Lavinia beach and beautiful sea view.
