BUFFET LUNCH EXPERIENCE AT THE ITC RATNADIPA, COLOMBO SRI LANKA
Our Dining Experience
Our first impression when entering the hotel, it was a star class hotel in a beautiful location opposite the Galle Face Green. The ITC buffet at the Ocean Pavillion was magnificent with beautiful interior decor and layout. We were warmly welcomed at the reservation desk. Our first impression was to have a look around the beautiful international buffet which was well presented. The salads and appetisers were elegant, beautifully garnished and nicely presented. The Indian station dishes were absolutely delicious, with freshly made Naan, Mutton Curry, Dhal, Chicken Curry, Paneer, Pani Poori with condiments, and sweet yoghurt in a small bowl with a pastry crust so tasty. I also tasted the Semiya Kheer and Rasmalai. These desserts were prepared by Indian qualified chefs with special ingredients from India. When dining at the table, we were introduced to the Executive Pastry Chef Kingsley. His attention to detail was extraordinary with his team mates Sous Chef Don Philip and chef Dimindu Eranga. Chef Kingsleys passion for food was extraordinary. Chef Kingsley presented us two serves of freshly made egg hoppers with accompaniments, including hot Naan and Tandoori Chicken for tasting.
The dishes we tasted were delicious and I don’t know how to compliment it. We tasted the appetisers beetroot terrine which was soft in texture and delicious, and the beetroot orange shooter was great and neutral in flavour. The cucumber with cous cous was a good choice for a vegetarian. Pineapple and chicken mousse was a small appetiser and well balance in texture and flavour. The Restaurant Manger was introduced to us by chef Kingsley and it was our great pleasure to meet him. The service staff was attentive at all times, very friendly and polite. Chef Kingsley’s desserts was just out of this planet, beautifully presented and displayed. Chef Kingsley organised a tour for us around the hotel. The Pastry section was a speciality area where he created some beautifully flavoured ice cream for vegans and for other special needs customers.
We got the opportunity to taste the four flavours of ice cream created by Chef Kingsley for special needs customers. Chef Kingsley explained to us very clearly why he developed the vegan ice cream varieties. On our tour we were introduced to a young lady who is in charge of the Anika Graceful Restaurant which was a speciality restaurant. The young lady explained to us the theme, from 10 to 13 course menu. On our next visit we will definitely dine at the Anika Graceful Restaurant. From there we were guided to the 27th floor which is a VIP lounge and a satellite kitchen for special occasions. The view of the city from right on top was beautiful overseeing in four directions. Ending our tour of the ITC hotel, once again was with great pleasure to mention. Chef Kingsley Weerasinghe is an outstanding chef and a great asset to the ITC Organisation, his customer service, Passion for food, and hospitality service towards customers is beyond expectation.
