A little bit of luxury
A fab place to stay in Hiriketiya if you like a bit of luxery. My room was large, light and comfortable with a good size bathroom and walk-in shower. Great air-con and a fan too to keep you cool, and plenty of hot water. I had everything I needed. Breakfast was HUGE, you won't need lunch if you put all that away! Sisera is a perfect host who will make sure you want for nothing and the whole family made me feel very welcome. Would definitely stay here again.

Property said they can’t accommodate me even with a confirmed booking
I had the worst experience with House on the bend today after staying with them for many years. While I had a confirmed booking via booking.com which was placed weeks ago, a property manager called today and said they can’t accommodate me for the booking I had for “tomorrow” because they are overbooked and they have given the room to a foreign group who staying for multiple days.
I’ve stayed here 10+ times here before and never had a similar bad experience. During a peak time like it is very unfortunate to see properties treat locals like this in order to accommodate other foreign bookings.

Amazing hotel close to the sea!
This place is amazing. The rooms are spacious and clean and the staff is amazing. They serve a delicious breakfast every morning and will help you with everything you need. It's a short walk to the beach of Hiriketiya and I can truly recommend this place!

Calm, clean, simple accommodation in Hiriketiya with good value for money
Probably one of the best places to stay in Hiriketiya if you prefer calm nights/good sleep and an affordable, simple, clean accommodation with good value for money! We stayed here for the second time within 2 years and would definitely come back. The place is quite new, the staff is super friendly and we like the location (10 min by foot to Hiriketiya Beach but far enough from „the main hub“ to have some calmer nights/sleep). This time, we have booked the Kingroom on the ground floor which we can recommend, it was very quiet and sometimes we saw monkeys running on the wall outside of our windom :) The Sri Lankan Breakfast was very good, and the facilities are rather new and very clean. The room is simple but with all the basics you need for staying at a place in which you mostly just spend the nights - as during the day, we were mostly outside at Hiriketiya Beach or Dickwella Beach (also accessible by foot from this location or with a short Tuk Tuk ride). We can definitely recommend this place if you are looking for similar things in an accommodation in this area!

Our booked room was given to diplomats
I booked a room with two double beds and balcony with garden view where is possible to sit on chairs and take a rest for our family of 4 and instead of it, after our arrival the staff took us to a different room for 3 with ugly balcony where you couldn't sit and waited if we are going to say something on it with a obvious hope that we will accept it. When I asked what it does mean, it was said to us that the original room we booked was already given to another family which already have stayed in the room 1 night before and asked the management if they can pro-long their stay. These people arrived with diplomat's label on their car, what for the management played its role, so staff agreed without saying them that the room is already booked for another 2 nights by other people. We arrived really exhausted after difficult travelling through blocked routes because of local demonstrations in the area and were so looking forward to take a rest. Instead of it, The Hotel of the Bend treated us like somebody who is less important than others. We asked if they could be so kind and explain to these guests the whole situation, that we had a booking for this room already before and if they can offer them different room that ours. The manager of the hotel denied with repeating and lying that all guests are treated the same what was not obvious true. We couln't feel welcome there anymore and had to find different kind of accomodation in Hirikatiya. Such a shame.
