We liked the hotel. In Sri Lanka for the second time, the first time holidayed in Unawatuna. Checked in immediately, as they arrived after 14.00.While they gave their passports, voucher, brought welcome with approx. When they checked in, they counted on a refrigerator, it was not there, they asked for reception, they said tomorrow, OK, they went through the hotel, the guys from the room across the street left early in the morning, they had a refrigerator, at our request their refrigerator was moved to our room. In the room: bed, we had a double, bedside table, wardrobe, sofa, 2 armchairs, fridge (which we constantly defrosted ourselves). The fumigator was taken from Russia, in the room kettle, 2 cups, 2 glasses, no hairdryer, the soap miners took with them, no hotel. CLEANING ON REQUEST!!!!!!! The trash can is outside the door, on the balcony, in the morning the workers clean up.
Breakfasts, regular, monotonous, choice of icing or omelette, sausages, fruit(a little), `juice(not fried), coffee or tea. We had enough. The hotel has its own kitchen, we bought at the shrimp market, we were cooked for 700 rupees, literally in a few minutes, we didn't even have time to shower. The staff is friendly, sympathetic. At the reception, the guy understands Russian and talks a little. You can also buy drinking water at the reception.
The pool is really clean and works around the clock.
The beach is 4-5 minutes away, if the turtles...then longer, left of the hotel
Where to eat? We ate in different places, mainly on the main street, on the beach (poisoned). How to go to the beach, on the left side there is a café, menu and hosts super, go down closer to the beach, on the right side inconspicuous guesthouse+ cafe, owners

When crossing to the beach immediately the alcohol market, right bus station, slightly further fish - fruit market, and local supermarket. The location for us is good, so they chose the Tai Lanka Hotel, you wake up in the jungle, with monkeys, varanas, flying foxes.
Numbers yes, not Turkey... But it is also a hotel 2*, towels and hairdryer, shampoo, etc. with you.
We brought s/o sausage, cheese, coffee from Russia

Fine
The hotel is nice, calm, located 800 -1000 meters from the beach, there is a swimming pool for adults and children where you can swim at any time of the day, a small clean and green area. The rooms are spacious, two rooms, there is air conditioning and a fan, a refrigerator, a wardrobe, a large double bed, a sofa, a table in each room, bedside tables, tiled floor. There are no toiletries in the shower (this is a 2* hotel). The staff is responsive, they try to help, they respond immediately to any request, especially the reception administrator Manuk, thank you all so much for your attention and care. Rooms are cleaned upon request, today you ask, they say tomorrow, tomorrow they brought a bucket and placed it near the room, the next day they cleaned it, changed the linen, the curtain in the shower and the rugs on the floor, only once in 20 days. Breakfast is monotonous, but satisfying, the coffee is delicious.

Sub- standard & Unhealthy Establishment
This is no longer what could be described as a hotel. The rooms are thick with dust that is moved around via the fan &/or AC which inturn actually caused breathing problems. This place looks quaint & inviting on the various booking platforms, however these photos are a sham. This place is nothing like the photos & any reviews that are positive in nature must be false. I tested the wifi - Down 0.7 Up 0.08. Now, that's not usable in anyway. The kitchen does operate as a restaurant & when looking for the manager observed a rat jump off dirty pots. There is fridges in some rooms, but not ours even after request & agreement. No TV. Power cables hanging out of the room. No room cleaning. Our bottom sheet split due to being so thin & worn. There are gaps in door ways & windows that allowed mosquitoes in at will & we were bitten head to foot. The toilet flashed sometimes, but when it didn't after use it was a major problem. To be honest, l haven't mentioned all the things wrong with just the basics of this place bc it would just take too long. Be warned, the photos are doctor or from many years ago & any positive reviews are false without question. This place should really be investigated by the health authorities of Sri Lanka. Don't put yourself through this highly negative experience, it not worth it.

Mixed bag
Travelling to the cricket, alone, I searched for 5 days for a hotel with a swimming pool, television (in room) and mini bar. The Hotel Thai Lanka offered all, so I booked in for 8 nights.
On arrival I found my room had no tv or mini bar. When questioned on it, the reception staff said not all rooms have tv but that would arrange for a fridge. Its Asia, I kind of expected that reply from the budget end market. The room was large, lots of furniture. It was clean. Bed huge. Fan worked. Basic but adequate. My shower didn't work and I complained about it. The reception told me they would sort it, which they did by moving me into another room.
The pool is nice. I've read reports of slime etc, far from it in Nov 18. It is clean, cool and over 6ft deep at one end. Small but that's normal in these areas.
Breakfast? Juice, tea or coffee. Fruit or pancake, toast and Jam, followed by fried eggs and sausage or omelette. Yes it's limited in choice, but again i find that standard in this part of the world, at this price.
Staff? You could not ask for anything else from them. To a person, they are superb. Nothing is too much bother for them.
In reply to other complaints I've read online. It is not a 10 minute walk to the main street. If you go out the hotel and turn left, it is 3 minutes maximum. If you turn right, it is 100 meters at maximum.
Cockroaches and or Ants. You are in a jungle country. They live here, expect to see them.
Poor selection of breakfast. Don't buy budget and expect luxury.
Overall, I decided to move out and into a luxury hotel after 3 nights. Not because it was that bad, merely because I could afford to and wanted a tv as I was travelling alone.
Would I recommend this place?
Low end market traveller - Definitley.
High expectation - No.
The Finish owner needs to listen to his guests and give them what they ordered.
To all the staff at TL, Thank You, you were superb.

Relaxing stay
The staff were very frindly and supportive.
This is the ideal place to enjoy a quiet weekend for a reasonable price.
It's walking distance to the beach as well .
