Holidays in an Asian village
We vacationed in Sri Lanka at the end of March - the first days of April 2024. When choosing a hotel, be sure to pay attention to the arrival airport. We flew to Hambantota, Mattala airport - the drive to the hotel is 6 - 8 hours, if you're lucky, without stopping at the hotels, on a direct toll road - about 5 hours. Therefore, you can only go to this hotel from Colombo Airport. In general, the hotel is certainly run down with a small area where you can’t walk. You can go there if you are not particularly bothered by the lack of service and choice of food for breakfast. Because everything is modest to say the least. The towel in the room will only be changed if you ask, and the linen is the same. It's good that they provide water in the room. Breakfast is meager; if you go on an excursion, there is no such thing as a lunch box here at all. Although if you ask Solomon, he can boil an egg and put it in a bag with a piece of bread. In general, Solomon is probably the only plus of this hotel, he is quite responsive. There are waves on the beach, if you are not a desperate swimmer, then it may happen that you will not be able to go into the sea at all during your vacation. There are no sunbeds from the hotel on the beach as such. There are several wooden ones and one plastic one under a canopy, stacked in a heap, but of course there are no soft mattresses for them. For comparison, the large hotel nearby has its own fenced-off place on the beach, there are sun loungers with mattresses and towels, so you feel doubly deprived when you walk past them))) But in principle I would not go to this place again. We wanted peace and quiet, but when there is nothing within walking distance at all, you can’t buy fruit or drinks, it’s a so-so vacation. On the way back to the airport we passed several hotels - a fairy tale, as if we were vacationing in another country

Am I in paradise?- Darling you are in Sri Lanka
We were spending 11 nice days in Solomon villa. Amazing holidays. Perfect place to enjoy sun, beach and feel local life around.
About villa- small, clean, spacious rooms with great design, green garden with small pool. Btw, good water pressure in shower and WiFi was working.
Breakfast - perfect for me - fresh juice , fruits, toasts, eggs - different menu every morning. It s true that coffee in Srilanka is strange but this is tea country
Staff- friendly and smiling always. Owner Solomon , very kind and nice person, he was helping us to solve out all our needs.
When we got bored from lazy beach life , we were taking Solomon tours by car to different places. Price was competitive and service good.
I miss Srilanka already, it is green paradise with very nice and smiling people thanks to Solomon hotel team.

Host
Hotel has good and convenient location, rooms, pool is Ok. Breakfast very limited and not for everyone from our group was acceptable. Coffee not drinkable. First time in Asia countries we met unfair host, who didn’t give us change. So we paid more than it was booked. He only checked in us , but later during the rest of days he was trying do not meet us.

Fantastic Host
We arrived in Marawila at the end of our trip, and at the end of the season so it was pretty quiet. The sea was getting quite rough so we the pool was a bonus.
Soloman was a gracious host and got up early to make our breakfast himself as we are vegan. Our flight wasn't until the evening and Soloman gave us full access to the rooms and facilities until we reluctantly had to leave.
The hotel is lovely with nicely decorated, spaceous rooms which were well equipped and the garden was very pretty and well tended.

Deceptive!
We arrived to a warm welcome from a very helpful member of staff and were provided with fresh juice. We had booked direct to help the hotel avoid booking agent commission but despite numerous requests for written confirmation and policies none were sent. The room was beautiful in its layout but the smell from chemicals (like rotten eggs) used before we arrived to rid the bathroom of ants (as explained by the staff) was so bad we had the worst night on our entire trip. The pool was very small although of course it looks larger in the photos, and was green at the deep end with algae and some broken edging tiles. There was no onsite shop as listed in their facilities and the restaurant was across and down the road and we're still not sure where the private beach is.
We went out to eat and mistakenly left our TV on as well as a light. This lead to the owner assuming we were in and so the gate was locked. We got back around 10pm and luckily managed to ring for a while on the gate bell until he got up to let us in. It was then padlocked behind us so we couldn't have got out again if we had wanted to. As it was late and we had obviously got him up we did not like to complain at that point about the smell in our room and bathroom but shut the bathroom door and decided to speak to him after breakfast.
After such a bad night we asked about the smell and this was explained and we were offered another room which was accepted. However, the disappointment of the pool and other facilities, plus an early flight home, lead us to decide that 2 nights would be enough and as we would have had to move to a standard room for the 3rd night, we explained to the owner that we would only require 2 nights and would then move closer to the airport. At this point he became very angry and told us we would have to pay for the 3rd night anyway. I tried to explain that he did not send his policies or written confirmation to us at the email address we provided and that we were giving him reasonable notice. We were told that the cancellation policy only stood if we had booked through Booking.com! He eventually agreed to us paying for the 2 nights but said we would have to move our stuff back into the smelly room! He also argued that the room did not smell even though the cleaner had agreed with us and explained the terrible smell. At this point we decided to cut our losses and leave even though we had already paid for the 2nd night. We asked if he could call us a tuk tuk and he refused, saying he had no numbers for any!!
The staff here are lovely but the owner was unhelpful, rude and behaved like a petulant child. At no time did he offer us an apology for using stinking ant killing chemicals in our accommodation prior to our arrival or even offer any understanding of how badly this affected our first night. Because we complained (in a calm and polite manner) we were treated like the enemy! His list of facilities are deceptive as they are not in site and his customer service is lacking. We have been to Sri Lanka many times and stayed in many grades of accommodation but this was a memory best forgotten.
However the staff were lovely and the deluxe room was as it looks in their photos.
