Beautiful resort with excellent staff
We had the most wonderful stay at the Arasi Resort!! The resort manager, Ian, visited with us personally each day to make sure all of our activities (kite surfing, trips to town) went smoothly. He is very knowledgeable and we learned so much about the local culture from our chats with him. Because this is a smaller, boutique style hotel, they can really make any arrangements you desire - I had the feeling that nothing was too big or small of an ask for the resort team. From an amazing boat trip into Wilpattu, to taking us to three different banks and calling in the bank manager for help when we had an issue with our ATM card, the staff at Arasi truly understand hospitality! Some top highlights for us was the fresh, locally caught seafood dinners each night (some of the best food I have eaten anywhere!) and the beautiful views of the lagoon right outside our bungalow. I visited with my husband for our anniversary and it was so wonderful for us as a couple because of the smaller size, we had lots of privacy. But I think it would also be really fun to bring a large group too. I highly recommend this resort!!

Balanced between sport and relaxation
After a stressful start to 2025, Arasi gave us the Sri Lankan experience we aimed for.
Kitesurfing and disconnecting were our two main goals.
The lagoon is great for beginners and advanced. The sea is beautiful for advanced.
Arasi is away from both the business of Kalpitiya and the other touristy spots of the area. Perfect.
We did try a few other restaurants other than Arasi, but nobody topped the curries made at Arasi.
The rooms are kept clean as well as the hotel grounds. I especially appreciate the quick attention to clearing out dirty dishes from the tables to avoid birds from contaminating an eating area.
Like ALL the other hotels, some of the common areas of the resort are showing the wear from the water and hot sun so that was expected. The water side rooms have this beautiful high wood ceilings that one must truly appreciate after being explained the challenges it takes to build anything in Sri Lanka.
The employees were all friendly and we enjoyed having laughs and conversations with them.
My only suggestion: while there are small bites on the menu for whenever one is hungry, it would be nice to have the option to order cashews or crisps to snack along with Bier and other alcohol. In the European part of the world we enjoy our Apero /Aperitif / Aperitivo. Having to go to noisy Kapitiya to shop for those salty snacks was not a highlight of the trip.
I am grateful that we didn’t choose to be in the busier parts of the Lagoon/Sea for kitesurfing.

Beautiful place!
We had a nice stay with our family of 6 at the Arasi Resort. The staff try to please everyone and you are well looked after. The accommodation (family bungalow) is spacious, clean and tidy. Showering is (partially) done outside, so we regularly had frogs in the toilet. Also we hardly had hot water to shower. Breakfast was a bit meagre (in terms of quantity) for 6 people (We could have asked for a bit more ourselves and got this fixed. We didn't do this) The resort looks beautiful! A little paradise.

Wonderful place
A true place of power
I was lucky enough to spend half a year in this amazing place. You definitely won’t go wrong if you stay here – the atmosphere is incredible. I stayed in a cabana overlooking the lagoon, and it was unforgettable: sunsets, sunrises, and pleasant music always playing on the grounds. The food is delicious and varied, with always fresh ingredients, the freshest seafood, and fish. And much more! The staff is attentive – especially Ansalees! The best!
For kiters:
I explored almost all the spots in Kalpitiya, and I found only two places where you can launch right from the hotel; this is one of them. No need to worry about taking a boat, crossing to the other side, inflating your kite, and so on. The guys are always ready to help inflate, launch, and catch your kite when you’re done. There’s a fresh-water tub to rinse your gear quickly. The key person here, my dear, respected friend Jeevan, can make any kiting wish come true – trips to the islands, kite safaris, overnight stays on magical Vella Island, kite progress, and an incredible vibe .
My deepest respect and admiration go to the owners of this wonderful oasis, Mrs. J and Mr. L – may you thrive, live long, and have the strength to create more places like this around the world. Warm hugs as well to Mrs. L and lovely Miss. A. You are incredible! May this place always bring you together, energize, and inspire you.

With all the options for Hotels we were concerned about the accommodations. I was looking for something more high end. In the end we are glad that we stayed there.
The room was clean and the sheets fresh. The manager spoke English and went out of his way to serve you. The only negative is the outdoor bathroom. When using the facilities the flies do find you-- I found that by taking care of business in the evening there were no flies.
Like other Hotels in this part of the Island, there are Crows that start making noise at about 0730. But that is part of the experience. On the other hand, we did not encounter any mosquitos.
The only NEGATIVE is the person handling the WhatsApp communications. This person was not easy to deal with. In fact she made it difficult for us to schedule Kite boarding lessons at the hotel. We ended up booking at the Margarita Kite School which is a 5 min walk down the beach. I WOULD NOT USE THIS SCHOOL.
Instead, book at the school located at the hotel. He is cheaper, more experienced than most of the instructors at Margarita. ( Margarita brings in people from all over to work there and not just locals. So you will not know who you are getting. My "instructor" was really bad. This feeling was shared by others who used him).
And on top of that, Jeevan, the instructor at the school at the hotel , will fill in at the margarita when they need extra help. You can reach him directly at +94 77 729 3642 or on WhatsApp. His English is fine and is a really nice guy.
