Experience at Full Moon
Visited my favorite beach hangout in Unawatuna yesterday after 3 years.
Visited the Full Moon resort on the Unwatuna beach with my friends to experience the beautiful beach, excellent seafood, fresh from the ocean. Mr. Anil Coswatte the owner of the restaurant welcomed us with open arms and offered free changing room for 6 of us. It was very warm and friendly gesture by him which we do not get from others in the area. The food was excellent and the coffee was super and it was complementary. We felt very welcoming and at ease during our stay and the standard of service was excellent unlike other places in the area. Chef Sarath made a sumptuous grilled fish on a bed of fresh salad which was out of this world. No other place in the area could match the taste, quality and quantity. The highlight of the day was how Mr Anil Coswatte appreciated our visit and the excellent treatment he offered to us as walked in customers with a genuine smile and expression. Will I visit the Full Moon again?? Most certainly !!!! Will never go to any other place in the area other than FM. Although it’s not rated any star ⭐️, I will rate 10 stars ⭐️ unlike other places in the area.

over pricey and dirty...
I stayed at this place for two nights with my family. Hired two rooms. Room price was not two bad, but definitely hotel grading is misleading , its more oike two stars but definitely not 3star. The fridge in the room didint work, no complimentary water, no room cleaned . Hot water and the A/C did work. Toilet and the bathroom had been my worst ever .... FILTHY, FILTHY AND FILTHY. FOOD WAS WELL OVER PRICED. About 20 /50 chips on a plate for Rps 500. ( £2.30 roughly ) basic food are well over price. I know all the hotels hit hard during the pandemic but this place seems to trying to recover all its lost in one go. Communal shower is filthy, pattio seating are is absolutely FILTHY. When order ice , was given broken crushed ice in a beer mug with a spoon. It looked as they scraped the bottom of the freezer to get some ice. On the positive note, the restaurant waiter Kumar is very nice ,professional , and proactive guy. Finaly i would not recommend this place to my worst enemy . The guy who claimed to be the owner is full of himself , had far more attitude than i like him to have. Location is good, that is it.... Complimentry breakfast is nothing more than a shriveled up frankfurter with a greasy omlet and few tosts. Mix fruit juice taist bloody awful . On the first day breakfast we didnt even get a tea or coffee . Later when questioned " sorry we forgot ". Lol, absolutely a joke and a rip off place. on a another positive note there is no mosquitoes but enough cockroaches

The most dirty place ever
This review is pretty long, sorry but I tried to make it as short as possible.
We went for two nights to this “hotel” as we wanted to be on the beach and photos on the internet looks lovely and price was good.
Unfortunately when we have arrived they didn’t have our booking at all. We already paid upfront for “family” room with double bed and two single beds. The owner was apologising and we got two different rooms for first night with promise that day after our room will be ready and as an apology we got two free beers. OK it can happen and we understand and beers make us happy.
My room was ok. Pretty cleanish, everything was working. Friend of mine wasn’t really happy with her room as it was mouldy, no hot water, toilet didn’t flash, mosquitos net with huge holes, funny smell in the room. Also I have to mention - we have arrived on Friday and there was HUGE “party” next door which was incredible loud and till 2 or 3am. But we still understood.....
Second day when we got back to hotel from out trip and went to our “new” room for shower I found that there was just one towel. When I mentioned that to the owner he was quite fed up with me but told me that in 30 min I will get it.
Meanwhile when I observed the room I was horrified....I used to sleep in cheap hostels on my travels sometimes but never (and I seriously mean it!) slept in dirty place like this. Funny smell again, sheets were stained and already lots of insects on it (dead and alive as well). Totally dirty and mouldy walls and beds, double bed broken, there was rubbish in bin which no one took it away after previous guests, bathroom was mouldy an dirty, the drain was clogged etc etc etc. I was tired and wanted to have a shower and sleep but couldn’t imagine to stay there as it makes me sick so we decided to find another accommodation for that night immediately. At 9pm we went out on the street and in 10 min we found another hotel which was absolutely clean and we got even better price for one night than in Full Moon.
Owner wasn’t happy about it and told me that no one was complaining which is rubbish as I have been reading some reviews later and I told him that. At the end I got a bit (a lot!) upset with him and basically asked for money back for that night as we bought something what we didn’t get and all advertising on internet is actually false. He wasn’t happy about it but after I have told him that I am happy to spend lots of time to write really bad (but honest!)reviews everywhere on internet he agreed to pay us back for the night which we won’t stay.
So this is my experience with Full Moon hotel and ONLY review which I am going to write about it as I think it is important to let other travellers know what they can expect. Honestly.
If you are family with kids or two girls I would strongly recommend to avoid this place.
I am not going to write about food and service (not really good either) as most important for me was experience with accommodation.

Nice and calm
Very nice small hotel and restaurant in the center of Unawatuna. Very good food you can have on the beautiful beach. Very nice owner, very helpful staff. If you want to spend your time on the beautiful beach but not for all worlds money, this is for you.

Great!
Husband and I stayed there in October 2017. We loved it! Such a great location, staff was super friendly especially at the restaurant. The owner was such a nice guy as well. We had an issue with a damaged passport and had to keep going back and forth to Colombo. Basically stuck in Sri lanka until new passport was done. He gave us a discount and kept a room available for us when all other rooms were occupied. Such nice people! Beach was beautiful and the food was so good!!! Would recommend this resort to everyone!
