Amazing re-union
A group of old friends met here for an overdue re-union and it worked perfectly. Impeccable service + amazing location made for a wonderful event that exceeded our high expectations. I would recommend this to everyone looking for an exotically charming getaway. Make sure you enjoy meals on site.

Luxurious oasis of tranquility adjacent to all the good bits!
It’s not often I look forward to writing reviews these days (everyone wants one) but this simply must be highlighted. From the moment we arrived, we felt an overwhelming feeling of calm and comfort. Damith and his small team are exceptional at providing that no-nonsense service that just makes you feel special. The decor of the property is beautiful and the rooms are included in that. The garden is gorgeous and leads directly onto the ocean - I think the smell of the sea and sound of the crashing waves just add to the ambience.
I could genuinely write pages on the food - it was outrageously good. A small menu (which I much prefer) but enough variety to cater for all tastes. If I could have bundled the chef into my suitcase and brought him home with me, I would have done!
Communication with the staff is excellent, even before you arrive, and they can arrange transport to and from the airport at no notice.
If you want somewhere that is a true haven of relaxing comfort in the Galle/Unawatuna area, seriously, look no further - you will not be disappointed.

A perfect stay
The rooms are comfortable and pleasant.The staff is very attentive,to small care;in a word perfect.
Breakfasts on the terrace of the room or under the arbor facing the sea are refined.
Don’t miss meals on site; it’s excellent. We made the best in Sri Lanka.

Very poor value for money
You expect something special, unusual, or unique from this kind of hotel and considering the price!
Admittedly the staff is very nice and accommodating, the bedding is good, the breakfast is good and everything is well decorated but the price is far too excessive and unjustified.
No services, audible road traffic, rain shower full of limestone, mono basin, no amenities, empty mini bar, very simple courtesy tray.
In the end a basic hotel with luxury prices, too bad.

This review is perplexing and full of the inherent tension of contradiction. It appears that this guest has an overwhelming desire to wound and has indeed gone on several online platforms to do so. His comments reveal his own state of mind and personality as much as they attempt to describe Satin Doll. His stay at Satin Doll was so brief, one night technically and in effect approximately 4-5 hours awake, that this review does not really deserve to be dignified with a comment but we are obliged to do so given the rather unhinged and vitriolic nature of it.
We are a five bedroom boutique hotel. We are part of a small collection of boutique hotels owned by a single owner who by and large has funded these properties with his own funds for about ten years. We have a French GM. Our average rating is above 9.5 for all the properties after having been in commercial operations for close to ten years. We are not a mass market hotel but a small and highly personalized property on the “golden riviera” stretch of Southern Sri Lanka. This guest has acknowledged the food, décor, bed linen, quality of our team but chosen to rant about a lack of minibar, the fact that there was one sink in his bathroom, calcium in the shower head (this is being checked) but most of all the price he has paid for one night. The fridge in the room is not a minibar but a facility we offer to guests to keep things they bring in from outside. In particular, it is for mothers of young children who often have need to refrigerate a variety of things for their babies. We are not even sure what he means by a lack of amenities, courtesy tray and lack of services and given the brevity of his stay, more akin to an overnight stop at a highway hotel on a long journey, we find it amusing he would give himself license to even comment on some of these things. As to road noise, this is mendacious. This is someone who should be staying in a more generic and formulaic chain hotel.
His anger and contradictory comments are more self-revealing than any useful barometer of Satin Doll and we are not equipped to deal with an angry young man seemingly with frustrations boiling over in other parts of his life.
We are the first people to acknowledge and correct any mistakes on our side. We are very sensitive to guests but also confident in what we do. However, this review is not some monument to authority that is going to make us either genuflect or virtue signal. Every hotel, every season, has to deal with one or more instances of this type of guest. It is our turn for the second time this Season.
