Cozy place with very nice view of the beach

We had a great stay at Nuymbani Rest House. It is located very near to the airport and minutes away to where you can drive with the whale sharks, with a very nice view of beach and ocean. The beach itself is very nice, not as commercialised as many other beaches in e.g. Zanzibar. The rooms are comfortable and the service is very good as it is family run. We also had amazing food there, home made by the family-chef. Hot water and Wifi available. Definitely a nice place if you want to just relax and get away from the crowd.

Strongly recommend this accommodation!
+ Beautiful place with nice see view, perfect dinners, nice clean rooms, place with private beach, low price
- poor breakfast, unhelpful girl on reception (speaking only Swahili) - but it could get changed :)

Nice peaceful place with great owner

Nyumbani is a nice tranquil place with a lot of potential, near the airport of Mafia Island with a well spoken and intellectual owner, Godfrey, who is always in for a good conversation. But not just that, he will also provide you with all the information you will need to make your stay on Mafia Island worthwhile and unforgettable. Besides, he will probably suggest to drive you to the nicest places of the island himself. Very hospitable.
His wife, the chef, prepares great dinners and a very nice breakfast that will fill you up for hours. The rooms are sprayed with anti mosquito spray every night, so that is also taken care of. The rooms are sweet and the upper rooms have a nice lookout over the sea.

Nice and Cosy place in Kilindoni

This is a really nice option to stay if you want to stay near the airport or you don't want to pay the daily $20 fee for the marine park. Furthermore, it's on the right side to go on a whale shark safari(see review another review). The owner, Godfrey is a really stand up guy and is willing to assist you in anyway. The rooms are quite basic but there fine. You'll have a private bathroom and there are mosquito nets in the rooms. There is a large communal area where you can also have dinner, the area is also used for the included breakfast. If you arrive by plane just take a tuk-tuk to the accommodation. It's difficult to reach if your not familiar with the island.

A good budget option

We stayed here for one night. The rooms are very basic and have there own basic bathrooms.
There is a large communal area which is high up and looks out to sea over the mangroves.
The food we had here was very good and is freshly cooked to order.
We originally did say that we would stay 2 nights but decided to leave after the first night. The owner tried to charge for 2 nights despite us leaving by 9 am. However after a short discussion we only paid for the one night. It is believed that this was done as they just need the money.
If you are on a tight budget it is worth a shot. The staff where very kind a tried to do as much as they could to make us feel welcome.
