Beautiful views in stunning setting.
After a lovely, but strenuous Safari, me and my friend had a restful and comfortable stay by the beach to the Indian Ocean, Villa Matalai. Villa Matalai is owned and run by the Hali and Claes couple, who also have this fantastic resort on the crest of Eastern Usambara Mountain, about 60 km from the coast. This resort, Camp Mawingu, can be reached either by car up to the entrance, or by hiking the last bit up the mountain. We chose a car. The way there was a fantastic experience, as we crossed rainforest and tea plantations. We reached the culmination on arrival at the lodge, where a magnificent view of the valley between the Eastern and Western Usambara Mountains lay at our feet. Flora and fauna were unlike anything we had experienced before and the climate was cool and pleasant. Likewise, food and service were top class. Nature invited you to walk along paths with a relaxing and restful environment as a reward.
Highly recommended. Preferably in combination with stay at the beach and Villa Matalai. A perfect combo.

Villa Kinyonga is a wonderful place to stay if you are looking to experience the beauty and tranquility of the Eastern Usambara Mountains. The setting is truly special, with stunning views over the surrounding hills and lush forest. Waking up to the mist rolling through the valleys and the sound of birds makes it feel like a peaceful retreat far from busy city life.
One of the highlights of staying here is the easy access to hiking opportunities. The area around the villa offers several scenic trails through the mountains and forest, making it an ideal base for exploring the rich nature of the Usambaras. Whether you prefer a short walk or a longer hike, the surroundings provide plenty of opportunities to enjoy the landscape and fresh mountain air.
The owners are exceptionally welcoming and helpful, and their hospitality really makes the stay feel personal and relaxed. They clearly care about their guests and are happy to help with recommendations for hikes and local experiences.
The only minor downside is that some of the staff do not speak much English, which can make communication a little difficult at times. However, everyone is friendly and eager to help, so with a bit of patience things generally work out well.
Overall, Villa Kinyonga is a charming and peaceful place to stay, especially for travelers who appreciate beautiful views, nature, and good hiking opportunities.

Wonderful stay and Beautiful place!
We had a wonderful stay at beautiful camp Mawingu. Me and my boyfriend stayed there for 4 nights and loved it. The camp has a great location with an amazing view and peaceful atmosphere. We had great long walks through the huge tea plantations. Highly recommend going here.
