Pretty stiff hotel. They don't serve beer or drinks at the hotel. The hotel is very nicely located right by the sea. The pool dyes all clothes yellow unfortunately.

Zanzibar Experience
⭐☆☆☆☆ Poor Management Overshadowed an Otherwise Promising Resort
I stayed at Sunny Palms Resort Zanzibar for 11 nights, and unfortunately the experience fell well below expectations. While there are some positive aspects, the stay was largely affected by weak operational management and lack of effective leadership.
One of the most serious issues occurred during a power outage. The resort has two generators, presumably to ensure continuity when one fails. However, due to what appeared to be poor maintenance and lack of preparedness, guests were left without electricity for approximately 3–4 hours, waiting for the generator to be repaired. This situation could likely have been avoided with proper planning and preventive maintenance.
The restaurant experience was also disappointing:
• Breakfast was essentially the same every day for all 11 nights
• Many menu items were frequently unavailable when requested
• There appeared to be no clear food planning or inventory management
For a resort with a General Manager in place, the overall operation did not reflect the level of organization or professionalism one would expect. There seemed to be little coordination, forward planning, or accountability, which directly impacted the guest experience.
Positives worth acknowledging:
• The housekeeping team did an excellent job. The resort was consistently clean, and their effort and dedication deserve recognition.
• The staff are polite, respectful, and clearly willing to help, despite what appears to be limited support.
• From conversations during the stay, it was understood that the Restaurant Manager resigned, and the kitchen team is currently operating under constraints. The chefs appear to be doing their best with the resources available, but would benefit greatly from clearer direction and support.
With better leadership, planning, and operational structure, this resort could significantly improve. The people on the ground are trying, but the lack of cohesive management and accountability is evident and affects the overall guest experience.
Overall:
Sunny Palms Resort has potential, and some team members genuinely work hard. However, until management practices, maintenance planning, and restaurant operations improve, it is difficult to recommend this resort to travelers seeking a smooth, well-managed, and comfortable stay.

We came here for rest and relaxation on the beach in Zanzibar, and that's exactly what we got. The bungalow we got was opulently beautiful. The whole resort was kept spotless. They swept the street every morning with about five people with brooms. The swimming pool was heavenly, really, we loved it, and the direct access to the white sandy beach was just as we'd expected when we first booked our six-day stay online.
There was one day when there was a terrifically loud party at the place next door, the whole neighborhood went boom boom boom with a pulsing disco beat for about five hours, but it certainly wasn't the fault of the Sunny Palms.
I personally had no problem with their complete no-alcohol policy in the restaurant, but that is one thing you might have to get used to. Another is that it may very well take half an hour to get your food after you've ordered it, but we didn't really mind too much since there's nothing wrong with taking a leisurely hour for dinner or lunch. The menu wasn't very "deep" as far as choices, but I must clearly state that the food was delicious every single time. They have a good chef in there.
As for the price, I guess it varies by season, but when we were there just a week ago, we didn't think the price was out of line at all.
