The shared courtyard area is brimming with tropical plants and makes for a beautiful welcoming space and a delightful place to have breakfast. The staff are so kind, friendly and helpful. I felt like part of their family.

AVOID, strongly discouraged

⭐ 1/5 — Reservation not honored and refund refused
I had booked and paid via Expedia for 2 Deluxe double rooms with private bathrooms for 2 nights. Upon our arrival at 2 a.m., we were assigned a dormitory room with 3 beds and another room in a separate building, both without private bathrooms.
After complaining to the managers who are not on-site, I was promised a partial refund of the difference between the rooms booked and those obtained, and my daughters were finally moved to a Deluxe room with a private bathroom for the 2nd night, while I remained in the room without a bathroom in an annex building.
At check-out, the promised refund was finally refused, under the pretext that my daughters had occupied the $95 Deluxe room, which served as compensation. However, this room corresponded precisely to the room that I had reserved and already paid for at full price on Expedia.
Reservation not honored, failed communication, and refund promised then refused. Very disappointing experience, I do not recommend this establishment.

Good stay

The staff is very kind, the rooms are clean and the price is good for the room. Everyday the breakfast is different and delicious. You get some fruit, juice, eggs and something that is a surprise every day. The location is in the old part of stonetown. The hotel was hard to find at first but look on google maps tarawanda house and you will find the correct location. Number of the house is 525

It was nothing short of amazing.

I stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights..had the best time. The place is secure,quiet and the rooms are quite serene and spacious.
The breakfast was on point and different every morning
The staff was very kind especially the manager and helped me navigate stone town.
They even let me keep my stuff post check out as I went to explore on my last day.
Would definitely go back again.

Pretty nice stay, central location

It's a nice hotel and in a pretty local style. The night watchman doesn't speak English, which wasn't a problem for us as we speak Swahili but it might be worth downloading Swahili to your phone if you need to communicate. If you need a private bathroom, check it is definitely included as it's a bit unclear on Booking.com. We booked a room that said it had a private bathroom but when we arrived they said it was incorrect - we argued and they let us have the ensuite room anyway as they agreed it was unclear, but if it's really important to you I'd probably follow up with an email just to be 100% sure.
