An eternal legend

The rooms here are very spacious and well-equipped with a TV, refrigerator, and work desk. The bed is incredibly soft and comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep, and the bathroom even features a bathtub for soaking. You get a stunning, full view of the Chao Phraya River—just sitting there and gazing at it is incredibly relaxing. One dish you absolutely cannot miss is the Montien Hainanese Chicken Rice; I made the trip specifically to try it. The chicken is tender and juicy, and the rice is perfectly cooked and aromatic, served with a signature dipping sauce that tastes amazing. Beyond the chicken rice, they offer other dishes like stewed pork leg, salmon steak, and a wide variety of international cuisine. For Chinese food lovers, there is a Dim Sum buffet at The Emperor restaurant, which also boasts river views and an extensive selection of dishes—all served piping hot, including *ha gao* (shrimp dumplings), *shumai*, steamed buns, and much more, plus desserts to round off the meal. The breakfast spread is an international buffet with so many delicious options; I highly recommend waking up early to enjoy the meal and taking a stroll to breathe in the fresh morning air around the hotel—it’s a truly delightful experience.

If you want an adventurous sleeping experience, you can stay here.

There are ongoing renovations, so there might be some noise during the day, but the river view is beautiful and perfect for relaxing and sleeping at night.

Staycation: Relive old memories at a luxury hotel by the river.

Come for a staycation and reminisce about the good old days at a luxurious hotel on the Chao Phraya River that has been a part of Bangkok for a long time.
This time I stayed in a Premier Twin Room with a stunning river view. The room was spacious and well-equipped, offering views of the Chao Phraya River and the Rama IX Bridge. Montien's Hainanese Chicken Rice is still the best – its taste is still amazing and remains my favorite.

An exceptional stay at Montien Riverside Hotel Bangkok

I cannot recommend the Montien Riverside Hotel Bangkok highly enough. From start to finish, the team went above and beyond to make my stay memorable.
A special and heartfelt thank you to **Busayamast Boonsompop (Pompam)**, who truly embodies what outstanding hospitality looks like. Not only did Pompam help me retrieve my blazer, but the team also located my computer mouse and returned both items to me promptly and with the warmest care. It's rare to encounter someone so attentive, professional, and genuinely dedicated to a guest's comfort. Pompam's kindness and efficiency turned what could have been a stressful moment into a wonderful example of service excellence. This is the kind of staff member every hotel hopes to have, and the Montien is lucky to have her.
The property itself is stunning, and the **views are absolutely breathtaking**. Waking up to the river and the Bangkok skyline was a daily highlight of my trip. The riverside setting gives the whole hotel a calm, scenic atmosphere that's hard to find elsewhere in the city. Whether morning or evening, the vistas from the property are simply gorgeous and worth the stay on their own.
Even with renovation works underway, the staff handled everything seamlessly, and the relocated dining at the Harbour View Restaurant was lovely. The team's professionalism and care never wavered.
Thank you again to Pompam and the entire Montien Riverside team. I'll definitely be back …

Industrial quantities of lipstick needed to even resemble a porcine

It was always a gamble picking a hotel that advised they were under-going 'some' renovations but it was cheap and we only needed a few hours overnight. Nonetheless, think it worthwhile to summarise this property for others.
1. It has a Marriott banner but what on earth possessed Marriott to add it to its collection escapes me. We are at a similar, newly-acquired and un-refurbished Marriott property here in Bangkok in a fortnight... now considering seriously to cancel
2. It WAS a five star property. It is now, at most, three star and that would be without the extensive renovations (this is the Thai word for jackhammer, I believe?) underway
3. Built in 1991, it is beyond commercially viable repair... anything done will be cosmetic. Having said that, I have NEVER stayed at a hotel where the renovations run until... 7pm! We were next to the ex-Executive Lounge and they were banging away merrily without a care in the world.
I'll skip the chaos at check-in, where there were bits of wood flying at us as we stood in reception, deafened by the nail gun putting up a temporary roof. It was slow and as a new (to the portfolio only) hotel they really were not set up for Bonvoy. No real upgrade although for one night it didn't really matter and to be fair to the hotel, the suite that was 'out-of-order' was offered to us at about 8pm in the end. The supposed Duty Manager had no idea to be honest and admitted she'd only been with Marriott for six months... clearly didn't understand even the basics.
Room was as originally built in 1991 and the bed seemed vintage and to date from that date. The room itself was clean enough and the bathroom might have had an upgrade at some point. I actually love the venerable hardwood floors - reminiscent of the ex-Marriott Riverside just around the bend in the river - but again, hardly 'modern'. We had some problems with the ancient aircon, some of which could be attributed to the human operative component. Sat next to an electrical outlet provided by - I jest-eth not - a power back extension! Never seen that before and it is placed next to a kettle, of all things. Hmmm... W = V x A I think? Shocking... literally.
Breakfast was at best average and without doubt chaotic. Limited 'Western' food options - why did the chicken cross the road... to avoid being turned into a sausage! - and some difficulties with the ordering process. I think the one hotplate they had to do omlettes actually was broken so everything involved the lady cooking taking your order then walking about 40m back in to the kitchen to cook it! Lucky it wasn't a Waldorf salad, as ordering any omlette seemed... somewhat of a challenge.
There were a few highlights, although the operative word there is 'few'. They run some kind of 'Club Lounge' experience for two hours and this was OK. It was all served and we lucked out with the EXCELLENT K. Joe who took great care of us. A couple of free beers and a piece of cheesecake don't make up for the overall experience though but it did lessen the blow.
We paid a very low price for a hotel night in central (ish) Bangkok... and probably, just, got value-for-money. If you have any Bonvoy status or expectations OR if you are not familiar with the geography and districts of Bangkok, give this one a miss. The staff were predominantly very sweet and very new.
On reflection, it would have been much better if the hotel had been shut and really work had been undertaken. I'd be loathe to suggest that Marriott would ever pull a stunt like this but... who knows?
