Great spot, Awesome owner
My husband and I had our bag stolen which had our passports and credit cards in it. Stéphane was incredibly accommodating. He let us run a tab with the room and the kitchen based solely on our word that we were getting money western unioned to us. Our banks were a huge hassle and everything took much longer than expected. We ended up having to wait almost 2 months. Stéphane was so understanding the entire time and made us feel welcome. If he hadn’t helped us out we would have been hungry and homeless. On top of his unbelievable generosity the food there is great and the rooms are comfortable. The Velvet is in a great part of town, near Thong Sala, and not far from Haad Rin either. Also, we had a lot of fun on live band nights and watching the World Cup live. Thanks again Stéphane!!

The worst place I have ever stayed
I really don’t know why this place has such good TripAdvisor reviews.Stayed here for full moon in April and I can say hands down this is the worst accommodation I have ever stayed at. It was also one of the most expensive places we stayed in Thailand. I understand that during full moon, hostels on the island hike up their prices but for what we paid we really didn’t get much. Firstly, when we checked in the bathroom smelled so strongly of urine. It was disgusting. I was going to ask to be moved but the staff were then no where to be found and I knew the whole place was probably booked up for full moon so I decided to clean the bathroom myself with some detol I had in my bag. The sheets did not feel clean and when you pulled back the pillowcase there was lots of mould on the pillow! The bed was so uncomfortable with springs sticking out, my boyfriend nearly impaled himself on one. When we went to check out we could not find a single staff member to give back the key. We were getting a boat to the next island and really didn’t have a lot of time to wait around. In the end we had to leave the key and a hand written note in the office. Overall the staff here seem lazy and work shy, I would not recommend anyone stay here, even during full moon there are better options on the island

BEAUTIFUL AND FUN !
Excellent location, Great Staff and nice owner !
Adding to that, food is good with English, Thai and French touch ;)) The room was comfortable, the hotel is charming and we had a lot of fun.
I hardly recommend.

Best hostel on Ko Pha-ngan
We stayed at the velvet for 3 night but wish we could of stayed for the week
We felt very at home with a chilled atmosphere
The staff did all the can to make us feel welcome even thought it was her first day
Excellent food
Cheap beer
What more could you wish for

Good room, good place, good bar, good people!
My little sister (14 years old) and I stayed at the Velvet for 6 nights so far and we love it so much we keep booking more nights.
On the first day, we arrived 3 hours early (the check in was supposed to be at 14:00) and were exhausted from the travel by bus from Bangkok. The French owner, Stéphane, led us to ours room so we could rest.
Our room (560 THB/night):
- clean and cleaned regularly + on request
- two comfortable beds with fresh washed sheets & towels
- air conditioning & ceiling fan
- balcony
- closet, table, bedside table & 3 electrical outlets
- big mirror
- good WiFi
- bathroom (sink w/ mirror, toilet & shower)
- good location (close to the parties)
- sometime a bit noisy due to the close road but didn’t keep us from sleeping
Overall really good for the price range.
After our nap, Stéphane gave us a map of the island and showed us a lot of nice things to do and places to go. It was really good advise so far!
He also invited us to download maps.me on our phone which is a really good offline map app.
After visiting the island we love to spend some time at The Velvet’s bar.
The bar :
- nice place with good vibes
- good cocktails, food and music
- friendly staff
- pool table
- newly installed video projector!
- we have met some really nice people there
- the prices may not be the lowest on the island but you will enjoy the place!
As you can tell from the review, we really are enjoying our stay at The Velvet and we recommend you to try it yourselves!
