in the center

The location of the hotel is very close to the center. It is centrally located for everything like the castle, the bazaar, food, etc. The prices are also affordable. Mr. Erdal is extremely attentive and helpful in every respect. They run it as a family. They are all very friendly and I would definitely recommend it.

Appreciable hotel on (almost) all sides.

We stayed at this hotel for just one night, during our group trip to Turkey. But one night was enough for us to appreciate most of the hotel's features.
The rooms and bathrooms are adequate and pleasant, as is the lobby, the breakfast room and the breakfast itself.
The location of the hotel is very central. Furthermore, the most direct road to reach the Kars fortress and other attractions is not the most pleasant one could wish for, as it passes through (fortunately for a short stretch) a rather worn-out neighbourhood.

Dusty hotel without managment

Sorry, but this is the hotel of the dust. The cleanliness of the rooms is absolutely disappointing. Even on the reception counter was a thick dust layer! I stayed a whole week and never saw a hoover. Toilet flush push button was broken, no action was taken to repair it and I found food from a former guest in the minibar. The breakfast room was frosty cold. It seems that most of the guests are workers, so not recommended for families. We will not visit the hotel again.

First hotel of our first trip in global pandemic

After several weeks / months lockdown and travel restriction during global pandemic 2020, we finally were able to travel at the end of June 2020. Gungoren Hotel was the first hotel we stayed. Welcoming the first guests, we found the hotel was spotless and really clean. Breakfast was served in buffet style. Social distancing was strictly applied and wearing mask was required in the hotel (of course except in the hotel room). Only very few guests in the hotel and our visit to Kars / Ani ancient city was amazing with very less tourists.

Quiet street, good hotel, helpful staff

The hotel lies down a side, quiet street, within an easy walk from the historic mosques at the foot of the fortress hill, and also from the main avenues. The bus station lies at a 7-10 minute walk as well. Staff are always helpful and kind (they even let me use their phone to call the airline that had canceled one of my flights, and that call typically took a while). Breakfast is quite diverse, there is always tea available both in the breakfast room and in rooms. Rooms are average, there is a bit of wear and tear (nothing much though), but they are very clean. For the price paid, a good place to stay in Kars.
