Excellent location, but interiors are in urgent need of renovation
On paper, the Wyndham Grand Kayseri fulfills the baseline criteria of a five-star hotel. However, the true distinction lies in the details and the overall guest experience.
Location and Arrival:
The hotel boasts an exceptional central location. It sits directly opposite Cumhuriyet Square, Kayseri Castle, and the historic bazaar, while overlooking Mimar Sinan Park on the other side. The airport (ASR) is a convenient 6 km away, and the Forum Kayseri shopping mall is an easy 15-minute walk. Upon arrival, the front desk team was welcoming and professional. Although our room was not yet ready due to our early arrival, the check-in process (partially completed online) was handled efficiently. That said, the lobby features a typical 2000s design that feels somewhat dated, with a sense of lost grandeur.
The Room:
We stayed in an Executive Room on the 9th floor, which offered a spacious layout, a king-size bed, a comfortable seating area, and plenty of wardrobe space. The room includes all the standard five-star amenities, including blackout curtains, quality toiletries, and daily slippers. The minibar was well-stocked with sodas and beer, though priced at the usual high-end hotel rates. However, the climate control was a bit disappointing; the air conditioning felt centrally restricted with fixed limits, leaving the room uncomfortably warm at night. Additionally, despite being on a non-smoking floor, the room carried a stale undertone of old tobacco.
The interior decor is an inconsistent hodgepodge of styles from the early 2000s, lacking a cohesive design. While the furniture is functional, it lacks premium luxury quality and shows visible wear and tear. The lighting is also minimal and relies heavily on indirect table lamps, making the space feel too dark
Bathroom and Aesthetics:
The bathroom is well-provisioned with amenities—including dental and shaving kits—and features both a bathtub and a rain shower. However, the showerhead desperately needs a descaling treatment, as several nozzles were clogged, restricting water flow. The fixtures, such as the sink faucet and toilet brush holder, look basic and cheap rather than five-star quality.
Conclusion:
We bypassed breakfast due to an early morning departure. While there are certainly more luxurious options both locally and globally, the Wyndham Grand offers a very strong price-to-quality ratio. Thanks to its prime location, cleanliness, and hospitable staff, I rate this property 4 stars. It remains highly recommendable, though a comprehensive renovation is needed to maintain its five-star standing. Overall, It is too outdated to be a worthy 5-star hotel.

A small improvement could be made in the bathroom quality, especially the interior details and using higher‑quality toilet paper.
Breakfast was truly wonderful. The only thing I would suggest is a bit more training for the staff so they don’t remove plates when guests take short breaks. I personally like to reuse my cup and plate if I’m still continuing my breakfast.
