Firstly, the treatment from the staff was lousy. When I arrived, I was greeted by a receptionist who could barely look up from her computer screen. Check in was slow and without an ounce of friendliness or welcome. I felt more like a burden than a guest.
The room I was assigned was beyond criticism. It was worn and outdated, with stained carpets and curtains that looked like they had been there since the 80's. The bed was uncomfortable, with thin pillows and a mattress that gave me backache after just one night. The worst was the bathroom – the shower had barely any pressure, and there was mold in the joints. It didn't feel hygienic at all.
The food was another disappointment. The restaurant served what were supposed to be traditional dishes, but it tasted like it came straight out of the microwave. Breakfast was particularly poor, with dry slices of bread, watery scrambled eggs and fruit that looked like it had been sitting out for days. Coffee tasted like it was made from recycled beans.
In addition, the entire facility was poorly maintained. The outdoor environment, which should have been one of the mountain farm's strong points, was sadly dilapidated. Broken garden furniture, overgrown lawns and paths littered with litter. It was hard to enjoy the beautiful surroundings when there was always a palpable sense of decay.
Finally I have to mention the poor facilities. The spa area, which was advertised as one of the highlights, was a disappointment. The sauna was barely warm and the hot tub was out of order. There was no way to really relax and enjoy what should have been a luxurious experience.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend Åredalens Fjällgård to anyone looking for a pleasant and relaxing stay. The lack of good service, comfort and maintenance made my visit a big disappointment. There are many other mountain farms and hotels in the area that offer a much better experience. Save your money and your vacation - choose another place.
