Great Location but not 5–Star!
However, I expected considerably more from a five-star property when it comes to the rooms and the overall condition of the hotel. The building is clearly showing its age, and signs of wear and tear are visible throughout. The corridors leading to the rooms looked worn, with paint peeling from the decorative moldings on the walls.
The rooms were relatively small, which would not have been an issue if they had been exceptionally well-equipped or particularly modern. Unfortunately, they were neither. While they were clean, they felt dated and fell well short of what one would reasonably expect from a five-star hotel. There were no bathrobes or slippers provided, although at least there was a coffee machine.
The bathroom was particularly disappointing. The folding shower felt more like something one would expect in a prison cell than in a luxury hotel. Every time I took a shower, the entire bathroom floor—and sometimes parts of the room—ended up flooded, which was extremely frustrating.
I was also unimpressed by the messaging encouraging guests not to change their towels because it supposedly “saves lives.” Please do not disguise cost-saving measures as environmental activism. Most guests are perfectly willing to support genuine sustainability initiatives, but they should be presented honestly.
The room service offering was equally underwhelming and far below the standard I would expect from a hotel in this category.
In summary, the only aspect of this hotel that truly deserves five stars is its location. The hotel itself is, at best, a three-star property in its current condition.
On a positive note, the staff at check-out were exceptionally friendly, professional, and helpful. Unfortunately, my experience at check-in was quite the opposite, and I did not feel particularly welcome upon arrival. As a Radisson Rewards member, I also found the membership benefits to be negligible.
Overall, while the location was outstanding, the hotel itself fell significantly short of the expectations associated with a five-star Radisson Collection property.

We are terribly sorry that your experience with us was not enjoyable. Our Radisson Collection Strand Hotel is trying for a more classic and older atmosphere compared to other Radissons. Unfortunately the rooms are as they are because the building is an historical building and that is why we cannot tear down any walls to open up space, which we are very sorry about. We always encourage guests' to be enviromental, but of course it is optional, we will change towels everyday if it is asked.

Let down by room facilities.
BUT the room we had was poor value for the money we paid. It had a bathroom the size of only two plane toilets. Ridiculous for the price of the room. You had to stand in the room to dry yourself. See photo

You need to be in a good hotel when things go wrong!
The hotel is very central and close to everything.
Reception staff pleasant and extremely helpful. ( see later)
Terrific rooftop bar overlooking the town…but be aware it’s very popular so arrive early should you wish to enjoy a few drinks.
The main restaurant called Strand is also good. We enjoyed a fairly typical buffet breakfast and had dinner there one night …can recommend.
Our suite was super spacious with everything you could want. We had two single beds placed nice and close to each other and very comfortable
Here’s where the wheels fell off!…not with the hotel but with us.
My wife became very sick and needed a doctor. The hotel put us on to one who arrived within the hour.
She deteriorated during the day and we needed help to get here to hospital.
The hotel arranged a taxi and the most suitable hospital
My wife was discharged later that night so back to the hotel as we were due to fly home back to Australia the next morning.
She deteriorated further and an emergency unfolded at 1.30 in the morning.
John the night manager was terrific in trying to get an ambulance however we decided on a taxi as quicker. It was a little complicated as we had to also check out because the hotel was full. Anyhow they made looking after our bags etc etc and made things as easy as possible
As it turns out my wife is ok and we came back to the hotel the following day to collect our bags. The reception staff helped me arrange accommodation at the other Radisson Blu waterfront for a few days where we are now.
Flights missed, travel insurance activated and life goes on…..it’s a bit of a story however the hotel was terrific in our time of need….that will always get 5 stars from me.
