Comfortable night with great food
Excellent location for hikers on the via alpina- we took the post bus up here which was on time and simple to get. We were the first week of the summer season so looking at previous reviews there have been some changes.
Our room was very basic but has everything we needed a good shower and a comfy bed for the night.
The owner was very helpful and we had a delicious meal in the restaurant which prepped us perfectly for the next big day ahead of us. We had a good breakfast of eggs and fruit and granola. They even had gluten free options for me at both mealtimes and were very conscious of that. Overall we had a good stay and would recommended to other hikers

Hotel with lots of potential but disappointing hospitality
The Griesalp is located in an impressive mountain landscape. The environment is beautiful, quiet and offers a real nature experience. The journey itself is an experience: We were able to drive up with our private PW (Jeep and 4x4) in good weather conditions after consultation with the hotel manager Therese, which is why we cannot comment on the offered hotel pick-up service.
The renovated rooms at the Grand Hotel also make a very good impression: modern, spacious and cosy, with a large, newly renovated bathroom. The common room at the «Grand Hotel» with seating and fireplace is also beautiful. Unfortunately, the bar there is used as an office storage space, which is a pity.
The dinner in the beautiful restaurant at the table reserved for us was very expensive, but fine and was served quickly. The two service staff were very friendly and tried very hard for us. Unfortunately, it was very cold in the restaurant during dinner – several guests wore their jackets.
The breakfast was unfortunately a bit sobering: very simple selection, little fresh-looking products and an overall unlovely presentation.
We had booked the hot pot (for an extra charge of CHF 35 per person) for one hour. We liked the idea very much at first, but unfortunately the actual experience did not meet the promises. The pictures on the website show an idyllic wellness atmosphere in a rustic, well-kept wooden pot – but in reality we found a simple round pool with the paint peeling off and its water visibly contaminated. We therefore cannot recommend this offer either.
The welcome by the hostess Therese on our arrival was friendly and fine – unfortunately it stayed that way, because afterwards she did not take care of us any further. One incident was remembered particularly negatively: One evening, a fire alarm went off in the restaurant for several minutes. However, the hostess did not feel it necessary to inform us or give instructions – neither on the cause nor on how we should behave. We found such a lack of communication in a potential emergency situation very unprofessional and irritating. Even after the alarm, which turned out to be harmless, she did not come to our table to explain what had happened. This is a very sensitive topic right now, and in a place where the buildings are very old and are mostly made of wood, you would like to know what is happening and how to behave. On the positive side, however, we wanted to order something from the afternoon menu on our second evening, which was initially not possible, but was then organized.
The acute staff shortage was clearly noticeable throughout the stay. The two service employees – the young man and the lady from Austria – deserve special praise: They were friendly, attentive and visibly tried to compensate for the unkindness and lack of presence of the hostess. Without it, the impression of the restaurant would probably have been much worse.
It is also a shame that we were not farewelled by the hostess, although she was present at our departure. A “thank you for coming” or “coming home well” would have been nice.
Overall, it is very unfortunate that a place with so much potential – a fantastic location, beautiful nature and well-renovated rooms – leaves a disappointing overall impression through lack of hospitality, organisational weaknesses and overpriced gastronomy. Our expectations were unfortunately missed, which is why we can only recommend the Griesalp to a limited extent.

Location is fantastic
Rooms are very different depending on which building you are in. Some are lovely and spacious and some are very small and old. The bar closes very early. It felt that they were understaffed and the food in the restaurant was decent but not great for the price. WiFi works not well on Apple devices. Location is wonderful but the hotel can use some updates here and there.

Have patience for the new year!
With no organizational talent on the part of the hotel, the turn of the year was messed up already on arrival. In September I booked the New Year's Eve package for myself and my partner with our dog Buddy. I was so looking forward to this break, to be able to rest for a few hours in the Hide-Away Griesalp before the new madness of the everyday hustle and bustle in 2025. I called the hotel more than 24 hours before to reserve a timeslot for transportation from the Tschingel car park to the hotel. We've been confirmed to be at the parking lot at 3:00. We were very punctual, after the additional effort with the installation of the snow chains on our private car, but then found ourselves at the agreed meeting point with 15 other hotel guests, who, as the human being is, all wanted to go up first, regardless of whether they called in advance like us and had their transport as noted in the reservation confirmation for the room in advance or not. More guests arrived almost every minute. No help was to be expected from the personnel who carried out the transport. The employee who transported the luggage replied to me that the boss shouldn’t let everyone come at the same time, that he was just employed and couldn’t help it. My dog Buddy and my partner froze at -6 degrees, I soon had cold feet. Due to a defect on the snowmobile's caterpillar, only 2 people could be taken per trip instead of 4. It all seemed totally disorganized and we felt really screwed. I would have liked to have run up, but my partner is no longer able to do this because of severe back pain after several back surgeries. I didn't want to leave him alone. I could no longer see that my dog was shaking and that there was no clear time horizon for a trip to the hotel. Since all three of us were frozen, we decided after an hour and a half in the cold to head back towards Kiental and get somewhere warm. In the Hotel-Restaurant Alpenruh this was possible, where we were warmly welcomed. I called the hotel from there and shared that we would go home again and not wait any longer. The Griesalp is a wonderful place, but the disappointment of the missed stay due to the circumstances described will have an effect for a long time to come.

Wonderful place, bad hosts
The Griesalp is located in a dreamlike environment – the nature here is simply incomparable. The beautiful Alp and the breathtaking scenery offer a unique stay. The newly renovated rooms at the Grand Hotel have also succeeded, they are high-quality and comfortable.
Unfortunately, this is where the positive impressions end. Already at breakfast, the disillusionment began: unlovingly presented, of disappointing quality and without attention to detail, no variety, a watery scrambled eggs, no fruit – all very minimalist. The dinner was unfortunately even worse – taste and appearance far below the level you would expect even in a simple canteen. In addition, waiting times of up to two hours were added, which often made the evening more of a patience game than an enjoyable experience. Guests were arbitrarily seated together at a table. Even if we had a nice table company, we would have liked more time for ourselves. The handling of food also seemed unrespectful, which further worsened our impression.
The lack of staff was particularly striking. We have a lot of respect for the serving staff who visibly tried hard, but with only two people for around 70 guests that was simply impossible. In addition, it seemed that employees had hardly any breaks or relief – a condition that must also be intolerable for them.
The organization of the New Year's Eve arrangement we booked was a single disappointment: chaotic and unprofessional. In addition, we as guests do not want to be confronted with the political views of the hosts.
It is a pity that a place with so much potential – a unique location and renovated rooms – leaves such a bad impression due to a lack of hospitality, poor organisation and unkindly managed gastronomy. We had hoped for more and unfortunately cannot recommend the Griesalp.
