Fairy tale experience

We spent two nights at this wonderful hotel. The room was clean with a modern bathroom. We had a balcony overlooking a mountain with goats grazing in the grass. Loved the patio with a beautiful garden. We enjoyed dinner in their restaurant both nights, and it was outstanding. I highly recommend this hotel. I picked this hotel because it was a 5 minute walk from the train station, they don’t tell you it’s up a steep hill.

Lovely hotel

The hotel
Has the perfect location for visiting the Jungfrau region. The town is almost traffic free, just the odd utility or hotel shuttle to look out for. Or cows at the weekend if the farmers herd them through. Breakfast is standard European , lots of heathy items and a few naughty items. We had half board , the even meal was usually two main options. Sounds limiting but oh the quality. Probably some of the best hotel food in years
Room was a tad noisy, we faced the railway, but due to the unusual heat wave we had to have the doors and windows open. Staff, lovely. Room nice but a bit dusty.

Excellent location and beautiful views !

This review is a must read for those struggling to decide with how to plan their stay in the bernese oberland / interlaken region. We went to grinderwald , interlaken , wengen , murren and most of the neighboring towns and villages and literally fell in love with wengen. The best of all . Its a small town , car free with a very relaxed and chill vibe . Great for those who want to spend some quality time with their family whilst being in the hills. Hotel silberthorn is right opposite the station in Wengen . The location is extremely convinient. The hotel is a legacy property dating back years ago. The rooms were nice and equipped . Mario at the reception was kind enough to give us another room as the first one was very small and compact. Also it was my dads birthday so he was kind enough to gift us a bottle of sparkling wine as a gesture .The views are outstanding from the property. Yes some people can find it expensive as we did but considering the convenience and location and the prices of other hotels at different regions like grinderwald which by the way is very commercial, this property somewhat justifies.

Flies on the breakfast

The Hotel Silberhorn is ideally located directly beside Wengen station and next to a supermarket, making it extremely convenient. Our room was clean, and the reception team were the warmest, friendliest and most helpful staff we experienced during our time in Switzerland.
The breakfast selection looked decent and the food appeared to be of good quality. Unfortunately, there was a serious problem with flies, which were landing all over the uncovered food. The staff in the breakfast room appeared to regard this as normal and made no attempt to cover or protect the items. We decided not to eat breakfast because we did not want to take the risk.
I raised the issue with reception and was told that flies are common in Switzerland at this time of year. That may be true, but flies exist everywhere during warmer weather. Hotels and restaurants still need proper management systems in place to keep them away from food. The food should be covered and protected.
The water pressure in our room was also extremely poor. The shower produced little more than a dribble. The shower curtain covered only half of the bath and appeared to be positioned at the wrong end. The showering space was already very narrow, so we were left trying to wash under a weak flow of water while constantly fighting to stop the curtain from sticking to us. It made a basic function unnecessarily unpleasant.
Another surprise was finding a price list beside the in-room tea and coffee facilities charging CHF 1 for a coffee capsule, instant coffee or a tea bag, with milk powder and sugar priced at CHF 0.50 each. The card did not state that these charges applied only to additional supplies or refills, so it appeared that even the basic refreshments placed in the room were chargeable. This was a first for us.
Switzerland often seems unusually focused on additional charges, whether for tap water in restaurants or even a tea bag in a hotel room.
Overall, the Silberhorn is a clean, well-located and otherwise well-run hotel with an exceptionally pleasant reception team. It is therefore a real shame that the breakfast hygiene concerns, poor shower facilities and unnecessary extra charges significantly spoiled our experience.

Regarding breakfast, we take food hygiene very seriously. As an alpine village surrounded by nature, flies can occasionally be present during the summer months despite our best efforts. We continually review our procedures to ensure our buffet is presented in a way that maintains both quality and hygiene while remaining practical for a self-service breakfast.
We are also sorry to hear that you experienced poor water pressure in your room and found the shower arrangement uncomfortable. This is certainly not the experience we aim to provide, and we will ask our maintenance team to inspect the shower to ensure everything is functioning as intended.
With regard to the in-room tea and coffee facilities, we are sorry that the price list caused confusion. The tea and coffee provisions provided in the room are complimentary and are replenished free of charge each day during your stay. The prices shown on the card apply only to additional quantities requested beyond the daily complimentary replenishment. We appreciate your feedback and will review the wording of the information provided to ensure this is clearer for future guests.
We regret that these issues affected what was otherwise an enjoyable stay. Your comments are valuable to us, as they help identify areas where we can improve both our facilities and the clarity of our communication.

Hotel Silberhorn was such a pleasant surprise! Since Wengen is a car-free village that you can only reach by train, having the hotel located directly across from the train station was incredibly convenient. The breakfast was delicious, the mountain views were absolutely breathtaking, and every staff member we encountered was friendly and welcoming.
A special thank you to Mario at the front desk. He spoke both Spanish and English, was always kind, professional, and genuinely welcoming. He greeted us every time we came through the lobby and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. One thing we especially appreciated was that he arranged our taxi back to the airport, which made our departure so much less stressful. Every question we had, he either knew the answer or quickly found it for us.
His outstanding customer service made us feel truly taken care of, and it's one of the reasons we'll definitely be returning. Thank you, Mario!
