An idyllic stay at the Great Wall box house

I stayed at the Great Wall box house for a few days with some friends, it was a lovely stay and the host was so kind and friendly. Because there had been a typhoon recently, the area of the Great Wall we wanted to hike was closed — normally you can access the Great Wall directly from the village close to the guesthouse. Our host helped us find a driver to take us to the next closest section of the Great Wall instead, which was also really beautiful. Part of it was reconstructed, but half of it was original, and there was almost no one there. It was such a scenic area and the perfect hike.
The food the host cooked for us was beautiful — really delicious, local, homemade food. There were also really cute cats, and the house itself was peaceful and lovely, perfect for relaxing and reading. We would love to come back again — we had the best time.

Best way to do the Wall

We stayed here with our young kids. We all loved it - it was casual but with well-maintained rooms. Walking distance to a cool part of the wild wall. We also went to the more touristy bit with the “fake” town. That was still surprisingly good - we ended up on a challenging walk during a rain storm! The cats were lovely of course. Would love to return.

clean room, good service, beautiful view and friendly cats

I took my daughter and my parents to Gubeikou Great Wall and we lived in this wonderful hotel for one day and one night. We had great time there. We booked double beds suite. It is very clean and the shower was great, high end appliances. The we had two meals in the dining room. We really like the decors. It is smart mix between modern and Zen with real leather recliner sofas. The workers there prepared delicious noodles for us as breakfast. A great start for hiking on the Greatwall in cold morning. We can see the corner of the very original Great Wall from our bedroom. What a Five Star views. The workers there are very considerate. They are very well trained and speak good English. They make us feel just like home, especially those living in cats. They are very friendly and my daughter had great time with them. If you have children and they are too young to travel in the mountain with you, it is a great choice to let them stay in the hotel and enjoy a lazy after with those cats in the comfortable dining room. An great experience we had and definitely will return there!

Day at the wall

Amazing hostel, with great common areas, rooms, and toilets. Probably one of the best hostels I have ever stayed at. Really quick access to a isolated, non-touristy part of the wall. Highly recommend sunrise and sunset hikes.
