Nice hotel backing onto a major construction site

In many ways Blueys motel is a lovely place to stay, located several miles down a quiet road in the Myall Lake area and only 250m from the deserted and wide sandy Blueys beach where powerful surf crashes into the shore. Opposite the motel is a small row of shops including a friendly supermarket, a bakery, a pizzeria and a pharmacy. The motel has a small pool and a jacuzzi at the front with areas to sit. Our room was a good size with a comfortable 5-foot double bed, a fridge, a bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet, a balcony overlooking the street and a microwave oven and toaster. Crockery and cutlery were provided and the room had a hair dryer and a wardrobe for hanging clothes. There were plenty of plug sockets and complimentary tea and coffee sachets. However, the wi-fi never worked at all. And there was nobody in reception to talk to about this. Worse still, there was a 12 hour power outage on the day we stayed (February 17th 2026) so all the shops were closed and it was the same for the restaurant. (We had been warned about this by the owner, and it was caused by external factors outside of the motel’s control) We never met the owner – reception - was deserted in the mornings and evenings. By far the worst of all was that we were never told that behind the motel was a massive construction site with big cranes and diggers creating new holiday homes. The diggers started at 7 am and seemed to go on all day. This really affected the whole ambience of the motel and had we been told about it we would not have booked. Do look at the pictures I took and decide for yourselves. We stayed in February 2026 and personally I would avoid this motel until at least mid-2027 when the construction should be complete.

We appreciate your business and the positive parts of this review. As a small, family run motel, it is not possible to be sitting at reception all day. We manage and clean the motel ourselves and therefore reception is not always physically manned. However, the 24/7 contact number is clearly written on the reception door and within guest books in the rooms, making us available to you at any time if it is called to assist with any concerns.
It is very unfortunate that your stay fell during a time that the power was scheduled to be out and the wifi had broken down. This, along with the construction works behind us were also communicated to all guests with the booking confirmation email and via text/ email upon check in. We enjoy working with all of our guests to ensure the most comfortable and pleasant stay possible and it is a shame we weren't contacted at the time to discuss your concerns directly and assist with mitigating them.

Second time staying at Blueys :)

Loved my second stay at Blueys Motel. It’s got a great vibe, spacious rooms, well equipped, spotlessly clean and located in an easy walk to beach and shops. We love Blueys beach for the paired back lifestyle and beautiful surrounding areas. Sophie, the Manager is super friendly and helpful and was great to communicate with via email, phone or in person.
Yes there is some construction and development going ahead in and around the town and the noise would affect all the businesses and residents. I imagine the work varies on any given day/week. We spent most of our time out exploring and found the rooms are quite soundproof. I would stay again during this time. There was no work being carried out on Saturday afternoon or Sunday so people going for the weekend may have no impact at all. Ps. The spa is heated!
