Brilliant hospitality

Having stayed in multiple hostels down the east coast of Australia, this hostel was easily the best in terms of hospitality, everyone in the hostel was really kind, the owner Ross especially, I was slightly disappointed we only stayed here one night, would definitely recommend!

Great people, cuddly resident cats, but not enough bathrooms

Wonderful old-school hostel with a fire place. Great vibe and great people with interesting stories to tell. Really enjoyed staying there for a few nights. But, the building is very old and damp. All of my clothes were damp by the second day and had an unpleasant smell. There are only two bathrooms, which is not enough for the number of guests; wait times for showers can be long during peak times. If you need the toilet during peak times, you may have to walk to the train station or shopping centre - this unfortunately would prevent me from staying there again.

Good location but cold and not enough bathrooms

Thought the stay here was fine. It's in a location that's good as it's really close to the station in the middle of katoomba (but then you can hear the odd passing train in the night). The room was a decent size and clean, a big common lounge, kitchen and free breakfast. The two big downsides were the fact that there are not enough bathrooms for everyone, there are only two bathrooms with one standalone toilet outside, so if anyone is showering that takes out a toilet so there was always a long queue just to use the bathroom, it was a real pain. The other thing is that it was really cold, there was just a small electric heater in the room that didn't really seem to do the job.

Amazing time, even in the rain!

We stayed in a tent for 4 nights on the campsite which had a beautiful view over the blue mountains. Even though we were camping, we could use all the facilities, which also included free breakfast. Every two days we even got free TimTams and we were lucky to enjoy to homemade pasta made by Ross, and had dinner with the very nice people in the hostel. The last 2 days of our stay it was pouring rain, so our tent was completely drenched. But luckily Ross helped us out and even dried our tent!!! We had an amazing time here in the blue mountains! The flying fox made our stay very homey. Thanks Ross and the rest!!

Old House with Great Atmosphere and Community

Booked a single night at the Flying Fox so I could take time to explore the Blue Mountains and the Scenic World Railway. The backpackers is an old house however every effort is made to make sure you have a comfortable stay. Great community while I was there, and great opportunity to meet others from near and far. Dinner was also provided which was really nice.
The biggest downside was the temperature in the dorm room. The dorm room was freezing cold, and the heater did nothing to keep the room warm.
