Disappointed with our 2 bedroom Deluxe Waterview to find that one bedroom is great with balcony and views, whilst the second smaller bedroom is windowless, with an opaque-type sliding door (not legally a 2nd bedroom). But at least it had an ensuite (their marketing does not specify 2 bathrooms - that would help). Also not mentioned is the permanent resident/owners, who are permitted to smoke 24/7, so our apartment had smoke drift the entire time from below (also in neighbouring unit where other members of our group were). By comparision, end of floor unit is also a 2br Deluxe Waterview and both bedrooms have great views - and windows/doors, so if you're claustrophobic, or want a fair deal, book an end unit to get the best (and bigger floor plan). The main bathroom is in need of a deep clean - perpetual stale smell of the urine - not pleasant and apparently a big problem to install brighter bulbs too. Views are great (higher floors) but take your eye masks as not block out curtains if you’re in east facing room.

Always choose a room with a water view or you may end up in a seperate part at back of property. Loved our stay with beautiful water views. Always enjoy the warm spas and great local restaurants.

Have I Got a Deal For You!

Ramada Shoal Bay
1. I feel sorry for the staff at this place. They try hard, but they’re basically pushing s*it uphill with a pointed stick.
2. For starters, it’s primarily a timeshare, and a central focus of the joint seems to be attracting more buyins.
3. Before you arrive, Club Wyndham invites you to a presentation, offering trinkets as an inducement to attend a ritual harangue, and then to part with your hard-earned for access rights. Warnings against the pitfalls of such operations have abounded for years, so it’s interesting that they’re still putting it out there.
4. It’s definitely aging in place, despite a lick of paint applied in the last few years.
5. Access and egress from the Barrington Block is awkward, via either a multi-storey carpark or pedestrian doors on a remote back lane.
6. One signpost to indicate the health of any hospitality establishment is the quality of the toilet paper offered, and this place ranks with the worst country railway station dunny for nasty, flimsy, transparent tissue.
7. We were a lot further back from the bay than we had anticipated from the promo pix, however the view was pleasant enough, and the balcony large. Resident Rosellas begged for crumbs.
8. The kitchen was dated but serviceable, with a noisy dishwasher, a microwave that ticked and flashed constantly, and a smallish fridge.
9. A sign in the kitchen warned of a potential $1600 fine for anyone burning the toast and setting off an alarm.
10. Similarly, anyone failing to empty their rubbish and recyclables into the carpark bins would be liable for a cleaning fee. I can’t remember ever being threatened with this in a real hotel.
11. The unit was obviously designed around queen sized beds, and the later addition of king sized left little room to manoeuvre. I did like the snazzy bedlights though.
12. The beds were very comfortable, but the lounge, which turned out to be a sofa bed, was hard and unyielding.
13. We could have used a couple more power points for personal devices.
14. TV was good, and setting up streamers easy.
15. There was a fair bit of construction work going on, notably in the unit below, and one day we were treated to a loud and profane dispute between contract plumbers when one of them apparently fractured a sewer line, judging from the smell wafting up.
16. Shoal Bay is lovely, but there are better alternatives than the Ramada.

Centrally located in Shoal Bay

Centrally located in Shoal Bay with nice bay views, comfortable bed and full kitchen.Great pool options offering both outdoor and indoor pools as well as three hot tubs.

Misleading information, tired interiors, cold indoor pool, unresponsive management. Great views though!

The hotel needs to be clear where your accommodation is located before you book. The hotel is spread out across various buildings, encompassing different streets and entrances. Arriving on foot with luggage I had over a 500 metre walk through buildings, car parks and paths at night. I was told there were stairs, however I had luggage so wasn’t doable. The apartment itself had a great view, but is in need of a refresh. Stained pillows & quilt in the main bedroom along with scuffed dirty skirting boards and walls. The indoor pool was not heated as advertised, disappointing for a winter stay, as it was one of the main reasons for booking the hotel. The pool also had a very big step that might be difficult for some. The staff were friendly but ineffective. I would not stay again. I found the accommodation below my expectations & the communication with staff lacking. I was told someone would call me the next day. I stayed seven days and I’ve returned home, no one called. I had also (when twice asked the nature of the trip) told them it was for my birthday (celebrating with family). Pointless really, the lack of reaction from staff was noted. Just a nod and continued on to the next question. Why bother asking? It was clear from my identification that it was true as indicated by dob.
