Situated in an elevated position overlooking the marina, this well reputed and respected guest house occupies a superb setting in the seaside resort of Bangor, County Down. Bangor train station is 300 metres away.

A real gem of a guest house!
I stayed at Ennislare House for three nights for work as the usual hotels in Belfast were booked solid - and I'm so glad! Although it's a little way outside Belfast, it's a quick and easy train trip away, with regular trains to Grand Central making ideal if you prefer to stay somewhere quieter. The guest house is a five minute walk from the station up a small hill, with lovely cool breezes (I visited in the heatwave) and a short walk from the seafront. It has a lovely terrace out front and inside it is traditional and absolutely immaculate. I stayed in the room at the front overlooking the terrace (rm 8) and it was light, airy, spacious - even with three beds as it's a family room) and spotless. Ann the owner is so friendly and welcoming too, which was great after a long hot journey. Although it's self-catering accommodation, there is a large, well-provisioned and very clean guest kitchen and cereals, milk and bread/breakfast pastries are provided as well as tea and coffee in addition to the kettle and supplies in the room. Free WiFi is available, although I got a great data signal too. My bed was very comfy and the location so peaceful that I slept like the proverbial log. There's also a large and comfortable guest sitting room with a big TV, perfect for sitting down to plot your adventures. Belfast is, as I said, nearby and easy to get to by train, but there seem to be plenty of other things to do in the area as well, although I didn't have time to explore. Bangor itself is lovely - there seem to be lots of different restaurants and cuisines to choose from, many of which deliver on the major apps, as well as plenty of shops for catering for yourself. And the people are so nice! Everyone I met was friendly, kind and helpful. I've already suggested coming back with my husband for a few days so we can explore. If you prefer to be self sufficient and/or don't want a big chain hotel, I would highly recommend Ennislare. The only thing is that there are stairs to all the rooms and there isn't a lift, so access for disabled travellers would be an issue, but this is made clear and as it's a traditional period property it's probably difficult to resolve. That said, I can't fault the Ennislare. I had a wonderful stay and would definitely come back again.

Cosy inn in a central location
The inn is quite centrally located in Bangor and has free parking. From the accommodation you can easily walk everything in the city center. The reception was very warm and friendly and I was shown the whole place.
The room was large enough and the bed quite comfortable. It was all clean overall. The bathroom was certainly kept rather simple but sufficient for one night.
At night, the heating was turned off so it got really cold.

Everything just right for me.
I really enjoyed my visit I was made so welcome by Ann she even made me a Cuppa. My single room was just perfect and although I only had a stay of 2 nights it really suited my needs. I loved it here and will definitely return. The location was very good and not too far from the Railway Station.

Cozy rooms in a a quiet location
We stayed here from 5th July to 20th July. We booked this place through booking.com which said the rooms are 23sqm. But we found the rooms much smaller. So don’t go by their measurements.Our hostess Mrs Ann was a very nice lady. Since we were staying for a longer period she upgraded our room, to a larger room. How ever the last 3 days of our stay, we were moved out of our room to a much smaller room, which we found not very comfortable.The bathroom was very tiny and the washbasin was right inside the room. The first room we occupied had a larger bathroom and a good outside view.The location is in a very quiet area , walking distance to many restaurants, bars and parks.
If you are a person with mobility problem, then this is not the place, because you have climb few steps to go up to the lobby and then another flight of steps to go to the rooms…

Ideal
With the limited choice of hotels avail I just chose one and settled
old style guest house, friendly owners, spacious ( twin) room, big bathroom, quiet location, whole property seemed clean and safe
never used kitchen area, never used tv, ideal for purpose
