Views to die for and fabulous food
I bought a Yorkshire Food Guide for my husband's birthday, we decided dinner on Saturday evening was the time to put this to the test. Beautiful setting with fabulous views, these were continued in the dining area as we were sat in a conservatory style room. We were offered a drink which was part of the offer and presented with the set menu to review.
Starters were chosen, melon and parma ham for me and couscous with feta salad for my hubby. Both dishes were presented beautifully and tasted as good as they looked. Main course was salmon with summer succotash for both of us. Something new for me, had to google what succotash was :) The salmon was divine, accompanied by a concoction of sweetcorn, beans, peppers, tomatoes and herbs, amazing flavours! Not normally a one for dessert, I opted for Eton Mess having seen someone else's dessert arrive. My husband tried the classic affogato. Both finished our evening on a high. The Eton Mess was light, not too sweet and adorned with strawberries (just a note, I prefer them to be hulled). The affogato was accompanied by a chocolate chip biscotti, and pronounced very tasty.
All in all a fabulous evening, we will be back.

Nice location, wouldn’t rush back.
This was our first stay at the Fell Hotel. Me and my friend stayed with our two dogs for my birthday treat. We did the dine and stay deal which wasn’t cheap but seemed a good deal for a treat. The hotel is in a fantastic location, lovely building, free parking and a couple of mins walk to the village. We were in room 7, the room is quite compact, especially for 2 adults and 2 dogs. There was a treat for both dogs in the room which is lovely and much appreciated. I’d say slightly dated decor. Main issue was cleanliness or lack thereof. The room was very dusty and our cups weren’t cleaned from the people before. Room was also very very warm with no air con. There is a fan but wasn’t much help. No fridge in the room which was disappointing so no cold water or fresh milk. No view from this room- it overlooks the car park.
We ate in the restaurant, in the conservatory area which is nice. Our starters were perfectly fine. We both had rump steak, asked for it medium rare. Both were well done, one more than the other and it was sliced which is odd. Very disappointing and most we fed to the dogs. No one checked in to ask how the meal was which meant no feedback could be given at the time. They did serve me with a birthday desert though which was a lovely gesture. I’d say generally the food is not restaurant standard, more chain pub standard but with restaurant prices. Breakfast was lovely though and they have the dogs their own sausage breakfast which is a lovely touch.
Staff, especially Shannon, lovely and friendly. Overall I’d say it’s an ok hotel; definitely not 4 star though. I wouldn’t rush back.

Some good points, some not so good
We stayed for two nights. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel is in a beautiful location with superb views. There is no lift, so it's a workout to reach the room on the 2nd floor! Our room had a comfortable bed, a good bathroom and tea and coffee facilities. There are very limited TV channels, but the wifi is good. We did have to give some constructive feedback about the thick dust on surfaces and in the bedside lamps. This was addressed, but the room needs a thorough dusting.
We had dinner on the first night and it was excellent. However, the breakfast bacon was very hard and fried eggs frazzled. I had to send my eggs benedict back as the sourdough was burnt black and the eggs were undercooked! But this was rectified quickly.
We were surprised that dogs are allowed in the breakfast room.
Overall a mixed experience.

To next time.
Wished we’d have booked a longer stay. Arrived early and checked in. Our room wasn’t ready ( we expected this). Left the car on the car park and explored Burnsall a short walk down the hill. Checked in to a faultless room. Loads of storage, fabulous bathroom . Access to the spa at the sister hotel was an added well appreciated bonus. Comfortable bar area.
Lovely, informative staff and fantastic breakfast the day after. Would definitely return and recommend.

Great country hotel with exceptional service.
What a lovely country hotel! The views from the terrace, restaurant and breakfast room are stunning as are the gardens surrounding the hotel.
The staff are so helpful and friendly and nothing was too much for them. The hotel is also very dog friendly and we loved the welcome pack our dog received.
Great tea and coffee facilities in the rooms and breakfast was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious.
Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable, bath robes and towels were luxurious.
We are looking forward to returning soon - highly recommended.
PS Complimentary parking to Bolton Abbey and electric car charging was a bonus too.
