Great Village Pub Food!

Last minute decision to eat here on Friday night. We used to come here years ago and thought we would give it a try under the management of new owners. What a great decision! Lovely atmosphere, really lovely staff and best of all great food. The menu featured some really nice dishes based on game. We all had a different one, and I can safely say they were all delicious! Well done team John Barleycorn, we will definitely be back

A note on the door, "away for the weekend - back next week"

The wife booked a table as a suprise meal for my 70th birthday.
What a suprise, there was a note in the front door window, "away for the weekend, back next week". They had not even e.mailed us to say they were going to be closed.
The wife had booked this back in May.
We spoke to several locals, who were not suprised as it happens regularly at this pub, no reason just does not open.
They are hoping for new management to take over soon, as it used to be a nice pub.

Cozy and welcoming

A cozy pub with an active fireplace and comfortable living room style sofas and chairs. Beside the pub seating area is an eating area with wood tables. We ate a sponge cream dessert, had tea, and a Famous Grouse. The building entrance is the right one of the two green doors.

Lost a bit of its gloss

Six years ago we came here as a couple newly in love just before Christmas and the snow fell around us and everything was magical.
The place was always going to have a hard job following that but we found it under new management. The rooms were better but the beds were much too narrow. The food was disappointing.
Still retains a bit of its charm and the memories we had will never die.

Excellent accommodation, good value

Excellent, room and ensuite were spotlessly clean, towels, soap, tea making necessities including fresh milk provided. No hidden or extra charges. Continental breakfast served in the bar-restaurant was nicely presented, generous quantities of fresh brewed tea or filter coffee were available. Good value for money, would definitely go back there again. Recommended.
