Return visit
The rooms and ensuite recently decorated. Love the shower with large and small head, has more oomph than before. Room has been pared back though meaning less storage space than before. Would still go back to this hotel though as convenient for both Cardiff and Barry.

could be better
Arrived before 3pm and no room access. Returned late to find the twin room was a double with a small (kids?) bed and the small bed wasn't made up . a trip to reception and we were given sheets to make it up ourselves at approaching midnight. Room was overly hot (no aircon and window on restrictors so would not open fully) and the 2 fans provided were cheap and louder than a jumbo jet - heat or noise a tough choice. Woke to find only one towel - another trip to reception. You get what you pay for but in the case not sure we did.

Good stay just outside of Cardiff!
Comfortable 3-night stay 14th-17th August. Was in Cardiff for a concert. About 20 minutes out of Cardiff. Uber cost about £20 each way but easy enough to drive if you wanted to. Great location for easy access to Barry Island and Cardiff Bay.
Plenty of parking including charging points for electric vehicles at hotel, and Beefeater on site for breakfast. Staff shortages meant restaurant was not serving lunch or dinner. Breakfast was ok and freshly prepared to order for cooked items.
Across 2 rooms on the first floor but no air conditioning - only a couple of fans which were not doing much in this recent heat. Still managed a great nights sleep in very comfortable bed.
Super friendly staff from Reception, restaurant and cleaning team.
Important to book breakfast slot via reception. Disappointing to see a couple of guests having a pop at staff over this either in person or on the phone. Staff were nothing but helpful and very hard working while we were there.
If you want a cheaper option than a central stay in Cardiff, I have no hesitation in recommending Cardiff West.

Very comfortable stay with friendly staff
We stayed the weekend whilst Metallica were playing at the Principality - the parking is large and free and the check in was easy with all staff we spoke to being very friendly and welcoming. The room was clean, modern, comfortable and well equipped. We had a great nights sleep on both nights.
The only thing I would warn (and this isn't the fault of the hotel at all) we didn't check the cost of a taxi into the centre but as it was less than 5 miles - how expensive could it be? It turns out it's around £25 each way (not surge pricing, just standard prices) On the Sunday we ended up waiting an hour for the bus to get into town as no taxi would come for us and then waited 2 hours for any Bolt/Uber/taxi to agree to bring us home at the end of the night at an inflated price! We thought it might be easy enough to walk but the walking route is very different to the driving route and not really do-able at midnight! Probably a unique experience as I'm sure if you're in town at a normal night without a large event on it'll be much easier. We did save a lot of money by staying out of town but the hassle getting to and from was a lot so I probably wouldn't stay whilst there was a big event on unless you're driving into the centre.

"A" Plus throughout.
My wife and I used the Premier Inn West as a base to explore Cardiff and see the mighty Metallica 28th June 2026. The room was perfect, clean throughout and air conditioned, needed after the first night was in the upper 20s. The staff were always helpful, cheerful and happy to assist, which included booking tables for us in tje Beefeater next door (attached).
Ww would certainly recommend and we will also return too. Many thanks for making our long weekend so great.
