Inviting hotel - with good food and nice host

Lovely spot in a warm inviting home/hotel. Very good dinner and breakfast included. The bar in the living room was a nice touch. Our room was comfortable but could use a deep clean of nooks and crannies and the sofa bed. The outdoor veranda area also needs some attention in terms of furniture. Overall a very nice inviting place to stay.

A little pearl somewhere in nowhere

It was the last stop on our trip and it was just fantastic!
When we arrived we were greeted by the owner and got a small tour of the house. Then we were taken to our room. A beautiful space, bright and friendly with a beautiful view of the well maintained garden.
In the generous Loungeberiech we were served tea or coffee with some pastries. We immediately felt very comfortable and relaxed, the music playing quietly in the background has supported this.
At 7 pm the diner was served, which the owner prepares himself: a 3-course menu, depending on what is currently being delivered: on the first evening there was fresh fish as a main course, excellently prepared and on the second evening chicken in a fantastic sauce.
The wine list leaves nothing to be desired.
We really enjoyed the quiet relaxed atmosphere!
Breakfast is served from 8: 30 serves and is very good.
I can only recommend this gem to travelers looking for peace and a nice relaxing atmosphere - we would have loved to stay another day or two, will definitely make a detour there again on our next trip!

A comfortable country house stay

We had the pleasure of a two night stay in this beautiful country house. We had a warm welcome from Angus, our host, who showed us the guest areas of the house before taking us to see our room. The room, Criffel, was absolutely huge, and very comfortable in a faded grandeur country house style. It is very much not about modern swish high tech styling but if you, like us, prefer something a bit quirky, comfortable, relaxing and unique you will love Cavens.
After pre dinner drinks in the lounge in front of the fire, evening meals were delicious- not over the top frills and flounces- just simple good ingredients cooked and presented well (Angus appears to be a very competent sauce wizard!)
We enjoyed exploring the local area and were very happy we had booked our stay at Cavens.

A cosy comfortable haven near Dumfries

We have just returned home from a fabulous couple of days spent with friends in this friendly, comfortable, luxury hotel. A blazing fire in the lounge snd breakfast/dining room. Angus the “host with the most” and his team were friendly efficient and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Drinks in the lounge in front of the fire…pure bliss!
Angus, a proficient virtuoso, was a delightful host and made us feel welcome and comfortable in his domain.
Large bedroom with king size bed and a sun room area overlooking the gardens. Sit and relax on the well positioned sofa, enjoy the view and read, chat and enjoy a tea/coffee.

Wonderful Country House Hotel

We’ve recently returned from a wonderful couple of nights at Cavens, Angus and his team made us both feel very welcome.
So often I’ve been disappointed when arriving at a country hotel which looks great on their website but doesn’t live up to expectations with old decorations and tatty furnishings, so we were extremely pleased to see that Cavens is the complete opposite. The time, effort (and no doubt money) that Angus has put into making Cavens a wonderful country retreat is plain to see.
Our bedroom and the public rooms are spotlessly clean and very nicely furnished. Angus is a great chef and fed us well, together with offering an extensive wine list. We would certainly recommend Cavens and will definitely be finding an excuse to return.
