Best experience in a Hostel!
I stayed for 7 days at CoDE in a female room with 10 Pods and the experience was amazing. The location is great, in the city centre, and everything can be done on foot. Everything is very new and clean. Pods with good lighting and structure, not at all claustrophobic. Clean and comfortable bedding. Cabinets with digital padlock that served an on-board suitcase and a backpack. Airy room with large window. Shared bathrooms with hot shower cabins and good water pressure. Common areas such as kitchen, coworking and relaxing are amazing! The hostel offers several activities such as beer tasting, pub quiz, movie night and free walking tour. There is a WhatsApp group that hosts can join to interact. But the best part of everything, for sure, was the staff. Everyone was always very sweet and welcoming. In particular, Faith and Poojan from the reception, who promptly helped me when I needed it. Elanor, organising the hostel's activities, always put the mood up. And, of course, Josh, the Cape Town guy who hosted the beer tasting and the pub quiz. He was sooo nice. If you are going to Edinburgh and looking for a good cost benefit, CoDE is the right choice! I recommend it!

Best place to be as a Solo Traveler!
I stayed at the CoDE for 4 nights and it was a great experience – even if I was out and about in the city most of the time.
Check in could be easily completed online and is therefore not complicated at all and the hostel staff is kind and very helpful. The rooms are kept clean, there’s a locker for every sleeping pod, the pods are surprisingly spacious with usb ports for charging your phone and come with a small fan to get some air moving if it gets too hot for comfort.
The shared bathrooms come in male, female and a gender neutral/disabled bathroom on every floor. They’re also kept clean, the shower stalls are decently big so you can change and shower easily.
The social areas are very nice with a bar/cafè in the lobby where you can get all kinds of meals and drinks, the basement is equipped with a co working space, kitchen, a seating area, a reading nook and a big tv room for movie nights. There’s also free boardgames provided and the hostel regularly hosts different kind of activities for it’s guests throughout the week. From free walking tours, social dinners (where you have to pay for the food at discount as a guest) to a free introduction to Cèilidh dancing. It’s a great way to meet tons of new people and get some recommendations for your stay in the city.
The hostel has an incredible location as it’s right off Royal Mile and therefore very easy to reach by bus or foot. You can get anywhere you would want by foot quite easily because of this as well.
There’s cameras and locks just round about everywhere so you can be sure no one who isn’t supposed to be there is loitering somewhere. In my opinion as a queer woman, it’s definitely a safe place to stay even if you’re traveling on your own.

female solo trip
my first female solo trip and i felt safe the entire time while on the hostel. female rooms and bathrooms, entry with code-only. 10/10 would recommend

Must Stay at Code!!
My dad and I stayed here for 3 nights July 2026. The location is unmatched. The price was significantly less than area hotels. We had a private room for sleeping, but loved meeting people from all over the world around the hostel and at the daily events.

Great location and a clean environment
It really is a great hostel. Very clean and modern facilities.
I only wish the cost of the all female dorm wasn't almost double that of the mixed.
