Excellent hotel.

Excellent hotel, rich in tradition and history. It is located in the center of the small village of Halkirk. The rooms are clean, spacious, and bright. Ours overlooked the street, but there is no traffic. The hotel is next to a small river, in a truly characteristic location.
Very good breakfasts. We had dinner at the restaurant, which is also frequented by many locals, and we had a great time, tasting typical dishes (the Cullen Skink, a smoked fish soup with potatoes, was super).
Staff always kind and smiling.
Highly recommended.

Top notch 5 stars plus from me

Had an absolutely wonderful meal tonight at the Ulbster. Service obviously really well trained and responsive and knowledgeable. We all had something different and meals came out very promptly and faultless. I could have happily enjoyed any of the four meals. Featherblade beef , local fish and chips very generous portion, 3 cheese macaroni and a lovely chicken tikka.
One of the places in Caithness that should not be missed. Jess and her team are wonderful. 5 stars plus from me

Great meal, even better service.

Food was surprisingly good.
But our waiter was brilliant, a young lad by the name of Logan. Very impressed with his attentiveness. He made the whole dinner experience fantastic.

Nothing not to like

As it turned out this was the nicest place we stayed on our NC500 jaunt, early on as we went anti clockwise.
This hotel seems to major on huntin' shootin' and fishin' in terms of style. We loved our room, not new but very well maintained with bags of classic style. Nice river walk before dinner.
Food at dinner and breakfast was excellent, service was good, staff were friendly. Great night's sleep. Loved the whole vibe.

Lovely hotel

Lovely hotel. Nice room and bathroom/shower
Very average lukewarm evening meal which was disappointing as we had been told it was good, served with warm wine.
Lovely breakfast and very friendly breakfast waitress
