They couldn't of handled it better

We are currently still on our long weekend but we had to jump on immediately and let people know what we just experienced !! My partner was just unexpectedly sick to the point of throwing up and the cleaning staff we not only incredibly quick but also so very friendly and had no problems with anything we needed and made my partner feel better as she was feeling bad for the mess and extra work they had to do but nothing was a problem and they did it with a smile all the staff are so incredibly welcoming and we recommend this hotel to anyone who is thinking of staying in Hartlepool ITS FANTASTIC!!!! THANKS TO THE STAFF

Basic but adequate

The Hotel is in pleasant surroundings on the coast by the marina with beautiful views from the bedroom. It is very basic but OK for a working stop over. The restaurant is more of a pub atmosphere. Food was good although several meals were not available, however the Mixed Grill was fantastic and worth every penny.

Nice hotel in a great location

Nice big hotel room. Bed was very comfortable. Very helpful staff working on reception and around the hotel. The only thing I would say is they need to provide more tea & coffee - there's only enough for one cup so you have to ask for more.
The Old West Quay Brewers Fayre that is attached to the hotel is pretty good.
There are plenty of bars & restaurants around the marina.
I'd recommend this hotel.

The guarantee that isn't a guarantee

We have always been fans of Premier Inn to the point that we actually own shares in the company. However, after a number of disappointing stays (only Heathrow T2/T3 the exception) we are beginning to change our minds. Our experience at Hartlepool Marina and of our subsequent complaint is a grave warning to anyone who believes that Premier Inn is still premier. It's now a chain that is past its best and should be avoided
On arriving at our room, it was fairly standard but very hot. There had been a heat wave it's true, but on Monday 22nd June it was cool in Hartlepool - too cool to sit outside as we had hoped. Our room wasn't though – 24.5C on the thermostat throughout the night - way too hot to sleep.
The staff had kindly opened the window. I say opened but with modern safety needs the aperture would not have been a suicide risk for a hamster. In recognition of this there was also a fan in the room. From the era of Concorde, I imagine, judging by the noise it made. If the heat was going to inhibit sleep this machine was designed to make insomnia inevitable. So, we didn't sleep at all.
In a room like this you toss and turn and hope that eventually you will go to sleep but of course you don't. So in the morning we complained and the staff were very sympathetic it has to be said. We pointed out that the price of the Hartlepool room was 50% more than we had recently paid in an air-conditioned modern room at the Premier Inn T2/T3 airport hotel (and in case you're thinking the price differential might be because the Heathrow hotel was in fact miles from Heathrow that is not the case – it’s next to the runway). The staff said that they would pass on the complaint and advised us to do the same directly.
Before we left, we decided to have breakfast in the so-called restaurant (Brewers Fayre) next door. We had eaten a snack there the previous night. Learning from our experience of having to walk over a lot of broken glass in the outside seating area to reach the door in the evening we took an alternative route for breakfast.
Breakfast consisted of a number of lukewarm “hot items” but at least if you wanted something genuinely hot you could also always have a few spoonfuls of the cold fruit compote in one of the roasting hot bowls that were stacked next to it. The experience was accompanied by mood music of hits from the 80s which seemed appropriate, as judging by the decor that was about the last time that this place had seen any refurb.
So a very disappointing stay but I was secure in the knowledge that Premier Inn offer a good night's sleep guarantee and that we would get at least some sort of refund of the room cost. What a fool am I. When I wrote and complained I found that it turns out that in the small print T's and C's on the guarantee that if it is a complaint about a hot room and the hotel does not have air conditioning then the guarantee is null and void. The only way that it would have been honoured apparently is if we had asked for, and been provided with, another fan which was less noisy.
The reality of course is that when you are in a hot room you try to get to sleep and it is usually only around about 3:00am when you realise that it is a futile exercise. So at 3:00am I was supposed to have got myself and my wife fully awake and dressed and we should have gone to reception (no phones in the rooms of course) and asked for another fan. The refusal on the guarantee presumably means that actually the hotel had a large stock of noiseless fans, if only we had asked for one.
But if they have quiet fans, why didn't they put them in the room in the first place? Because they don’t have any quiet fans of course.
The reality is that Premier Inn are struggling and rather than show any goodwill towards loyal customers they will fall back on the small print to hold on to every penny they can. Those pennies will now be less from us and should be from you dear reader as it is clear that this company is going downhill fast. I’ve subsequently read that a significant, and angry, American investor is pushing for major change. I’m not surprised
Maybe I should give the last word to Tracy Chapman, who featured on the soundtrack in the breakfast room in one of the most depressing songs ever written; Fast car. The lyrics go, “Maybe together we can get somewhere. Any place is better”. Bang on, Trace, bang on.
