Lovely stay in a lovely place, but....
Absolutely lovely hotel, friendly staff and good location. Beautiful views and lovely walks from the hotel along the path, or uphill. Local pub and cafe in Elterwater. Good bridge for playing Pooh sticks. Car park at the hotel and nice gardens with noisy peacocks on site who sit in trees!
However... we stayed in Deer Bields, which is on 2nd floor, with no lift! The wifi in our room was intermittent at best and the TV kept losing signal. When you've walked all day and want to flop in front of a movie, that's very frustrating.
The beautiful egg shaped bath (which I'd always wanted to own but have now changed my mind) was difficult for my husband to get in and out of, tough to shower in (without making a mess) and impractical for us - but it did look good! You couldn't stand fully up in the toilet or shower (we're 5' 7") due to the beams on the ceiling - again, they looked good... but were annoying and impractical.
Breakfast was good, wide variety of options and decent coffee. We also ate in the hotel bar on our first night, but was very expensive for a limited menu and not large enough portions (my husband was warned to order a side dish as his fish dish wasn't a 'large' portion) 2 mains, 2 drinks and 2 puddings £80+. So we ate out for the rest of our visit, sorry! It was tasty, but nothing special. Would recommend the hotel, but beware of the noisy peacocks!!

Would definitely recommend and happily return.
We had a fantastic dinner here—every course felt worth the money, with a real focus on local, high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance: formal enough to feel special, but still relaxed and comfortable. The drinks selection is excellent, and the bar dining area is a great spot in its own right.
The staff were brilliant—friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. Also a big plus: they’re very welcoming to dogs.
Would definitely recommend and happily return.

Brilliant stay!
We've been coming to the Eltermere for 15 years or thereabouts. This visit, for a couple of drizzly days in January was as lovely as ever. The location couldn't be bettered for walking, with absolutely glorious walks from the door in every direction. The rooms range from cosy to luxurious, and the service is always quiet and attentive. Finally, the food is excellent. We choose to eat dinner in the bar, for it's warm, rustic atmosphere, but the dining room is perfect for those with tastes for elegance.

New Years Eve/Day break
Had a nice few days. Room had no heating as there was a problem and a small heater was provided, which was ‘ok’ but did not heat enough. Breakfast was lovely and covered in cost of the stay, evening meal was average and overpriced. Hotel itself is beautiful but fires were not all lit so did not provide the cosy feel. Staff were friendly, especially a lady in particular who was there morning till night. Local pub 2 minutes away. Great walks

New Year’s Eve escape
The staff were helpful and accommodating the hotel was clean and well maintained the bar wasn’t so well stocked and I was disappointed that the open fires that were shown on the website were not all lit it was New Year’s Eve and very cold out so was looking forward to the fires great place to stay if you like walking on the fells
