Great staff, great food - great place

First experience in the wishful thinker, my partner and I were torn between light bites or a full main - but the best one and we went for a lighter meal, we were lucky enough to have Jarvie serve/attend and all out look after us … what a pleasant man. He helped not only with recommendations… the end result was the food being as nice as the staff. Thanks again jarvie, we will certainly be back !!

Great lunch, great venue, friendly service

We recently had lunch here and wished we lived closer. We had booked although it wasn’t that busy on a Tuesday. We were warmly greeted by Gareth, one of the managers, and made to feel very welcome. He was chatty and friendly but also efficient as were all the waiting staff. We sat outside in the shade and it was a very pleasant couple of hours. The menu is great - so varied - and gives you the options to have certain dishes as starter or main portions. We had the halloumi fries and lamb croquettes as nibbly bits to start - they would be great to share if you had more people. Then my husband had the Peruvian steak on a bed of crunchy salad & I had the lamb koftke burger which was absolutely delicious. Very generous sized helpings. Hubby said it was one of the best lunches he had had in a long time! We had the car so weren’t really drinking but the wine list looks good - I had a glass of the Bacchus which was delicious. Gareth also showed us an example of one of the rooms they have upstairs & they were really nicely done and if we had the reason ever we would definitely stay there. The venue itself is huge with different areas to sit and would be perfect for a private party or event. The pub also holds its own events sometimes. The outside space is big and service is available on the terrace but if you go onto the lawn it’s bar service.
A great find for us when we fancy a drive out and, as with all the Elite pubs we have visited, great quality and service and decent pricing!
It’s a must if you are in the area.

Absolutely amazing

We had the pleasure of coming here for Father’s Day, the food was 10/10 the waitress Megan couldn’t have done anymore she was super attentive.

A Real Gem

This wonderful place is a stone's throw from the very impressive Chilston Park Hotel, which I've visited for business events several times. However the cost of an overnight stay at the Wishful Thinker is a fraction of the equivalent at Chilston Park, and if you're looking for a pleasant room, nice staff and a comfortable place to sleep on a business schedule, this is for me equally good. I will certainly be back!

Great service

Light lunch with the family on bank holiday. Service in particular was amazing especially from Gareth who was exceptionally attentive and very friendly. Food was good but a little bland.
