Bikers on Tour - Overall an OK stay, but only just

To say that this is an interesting location to stay at is an understatement
The lady that runs the hotel does try to do everything that she can to help, but.
We checked in and went to the bar for a drink, there we discussed the random and eclectic items that adorn the place, there are items everywhere and cover every topic under the sun.
The rooms are very dated, I stayed in room 15 and the bed definitely needs a new mattress, plus the shower is over the bath and is very narrow.
As there is no evening meals available we ended up at the truck stop a short walk up the road, OK food at OK price.
Back to the hotel for drink and watch the football on the TV in the entrance hall.
Slept OK but as said the mattress definitely needs replacing
Breakfast was mainly continental. but scrambled eggs on toast was offered.
on commenting to the owner about the amount of "stuff" around, she pointed us to the ballroom where we found what could only be described as a antique shop if it were for sale!!

A Lovely Surprise!

Kirkconnell Hall was a beautiful place to stay. Very grand and beautiful with some lovely grounds surrounding it. We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite (Room 6) which had a fantastic Jacuzzi bath in it! The room was very clean and really well presented. Breakfast was nice with some warm boiled eggs, croissants and toast to accompany the Continental offerings. The price was great. The man and woman running the place lovely. Great weekend away with my wife! Would definitely be back if we are in the area!

Stay here, but eat before you arrive.

After reading some of your reviews I nearly cancelled my booking, I am so glad I didn’t, the place is charming and the lady in charge couldn’t have been more helpful. The room was beautifully quiet, the beds very comfortable and the bathroom perfectly appointed. Yes, there are a few bits that could do with some attention, just general wear and tear, but everywhere we looked was spotlessly clean. Continental breakfast was plentiful and varied, very decent coffee. Only problem we must point out is that, apart from breakfast, there is no food served here, we had to drive 14 miles to Dumfries for a meal. The decor in the public rooms is mouth-wateringly gorgeous.

DONT DO IT!!!

We stayed here for one night (well, nearly)! on our way home. We actually left at midnight, as I couldn't stand the smell, or uncomfortable bed any longer. I didn't fancy the breakfast as all the cereals were already out on a table in a big line, who knows how long they'd been sat there!
When making tea on arrival, it had a very funny taste, so boiled kettle a couple of times, tried again, still nasty! Sniffed kettle & smelt like b.o Asked for a new kettle, so tried again, still horrible. Checked milk & they were a year out of date!
I tried to relax, but the old sash windows rattled & the trains on one side & the motorway on the other, the mattress was so uncomfortable, you could feel every spring, & the smell was really getting to me by now, even after spraying perfume all around. So by midnight, we'd had enough, and left. Save your monet (& your sanity) Don't stay here!
