Comfortable room with a friendly Welcome from staff

The room although maybe seen as basic was perfect. Clean, cosy bed, different lights, so can get nice settled for the night glow. No kettle, but can help yourself to free tea, coffees, chocolate from the machine down the corridor. But a well received bottle of water. If you don't use room service, you get a free drink from the bar. Breakfast had everything you'd want. I arrived around 7pm and ate inside. The food was wonderful fully enjoyed.
But mainly the staff, the reception had a friendly smile, I was travelling alone and felt welcomed. Nothing felt too much and the girls just made me feel as a solo traveller that they would help with anything I needed
Location not the hotels fault but the area is a little rough on the edges, so as a lone traveller I had to be aware. But it's not far from tube and a bus stop right outside. As long as streetwise and willing to be out of the centre it's fine.

not good :(

we came to the hotel late in the evening, between 10pm and 11pm. booking said we could check in at around 3pm, although when we wanted to check in in the evening, they said the room wasn't ready yet. in hindsight: first redflag. when we got into our room in the basement, we thought it was gonna be okay, it didn't seem too dirty, though we noticed the strong chlorine smell immediately (thought it was gonna go away). we found some dead fruitflies lying around, didn't think much of it, we didn't book the fanciest hotel anyway. the bathroom was like a small container(?), very dingy, mouldy, felt scared to put my things out. took a shower and even the shower water smelled a lot like chlorine. my thoughts were "maybe thats just london". it wasn't. it was also very dusty, slimey stuff on the ground? and the worst part were the fruitflies. as soon as we turned on the lights next to the bed, they were everywhere. i kid you not, 30-40, at least! i went up to the reception to ask for a different room and unfortunately they said they were fully booked and we could switch in the morning, so we thought okay, one night will be okay. at 6am the air condition turned on, way too loud and we couldn't turn it off, so we were awake since 6am. at around 8am we went upstairs to the reception, suitcases packed, ready to switch rooms, as we were promised. sadly, they said they couldn't offer us another room until 10 or 11am, because the other rooms had to be cleaned. sounds logic, but that wasn't what we were promised. after one of the staff phoned back with someone other from the staff, he said he would try to get the room ready in the next 30 minutes. they offered us free breakfast for the troubles, but we already didn't feel comfortable in the hotel anymore, so we went to have breakfast at a nearby restaurant. when we came back after over an hour, the new room still wasn't ready. maybe thats when we should've left... after another hour or so we got another room on the fourth floor. we were already very skeptical but decided to give it another try. we thought that maybe the room would have a window, due to it being on the fourth floor. thought wrong. the room was much smaller, which was fine. no fruitflies for the 30 minutes we were in the room but it still stank of chlorine and you could still see the streaks on the wall. we initially booked to stay for 3 nights, but switched hotels after that one night. i do not recommend staying here. yes, the staff was nice and they seemed like they wanted to help. unfortunately that doesn't change the fact that the rooms were unacceptable.

Our stay

It was a very pleasant stay: clean room, friendly staff and it’s near Aldgate East underground station. The check in and check out are fast and easy to do.

We had an absolutely amazing stay at this hotel! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and the service was outstanding.
The room was clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. The atmosphere was lovely, and every little detail made our stay special.
We truly enjoyed every moment and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a wonderful experience. We will certainly be coming back again!

Great location for a reasonable price. Friendly staff and they took our bags when we checked out so we could have a few more hours of exploring London. Room size was very spacious for a London hotel to.
