Delightful historic property, could do with maintenance to some areas. The staff were all friendly and polite.

We had a lovely 2 night stay here. Staying in room 6. We had everything we needed in our room. The food was good value for money and well cooked and presented. The staff were lovely and very helpful. Downstairs the building was in good condition and nicely decorated. It’s obviously a very popular place. Its location was great with convenient parking. It was close to local shops and amenities.
My only negatives were that the room was extremely hot as the towel rail had been on before we arrived. The bathroom was very tight for someone with mobility issues. Also the room needed some TLC. ( Flaking paint, especially on the bathroom ceiling, taps and shower were very lime scaled, toilet roll holder very loose. There was a rip in the easy armchair and bits of the bedstead were missing. The stair carpet in the hallway was very dusty and dirty.)

Great atmosphere and amazing staff. Perfect location and comfortable room. Hot shower but it took a few minutes for the hot water to come through. Excellent food and friendly atmosphere. Definitely recommend it.

Main problem was excessive drilling at night (into the early hours) on the High Street by Thames Water. Don't know if hotel knew about that. Otherwise a good value deal, very central with parking.

Brunch with my mate

My friend and I recently visited the Castle & Ball in Marlborough and had a great experience, largely thanks to Gregory, who looked after us throughout our meal.
From the moment we arrived, Gregory made us feel genuinely welcome. He greeted us with a warm smile and a friendly manner that immediately put us at ease. It’s not often you come across someone who strikes the perfect balance between being professional and personable, but Gregory does exactly that.
The service throughout was outstanding. Gregory was attentive without ever hovering, checking that everything was to our liking, and always appearing at just the right moment whenever we needed anything. It never felt rushed or forced—just natural, thoughtful hospitality. What really stood out was how polite and well-mannered he was. Every interaction was warm, courteous and genuine, and it was obvious that he takes real pride in looking after his guests.
The Castle & Ball is fortunate to have someone like Gregory representing them. His professionalism, attention to detail and friendly personality are a real credit to the hotel. In a world where customer service can sometimes feel rushed or impersonal, Gregory reminded us what true hospitality looks like.
Thank you, Gregory, for making our visit so enjoyable. We left feeling well looked after and already looking forward to coming back. If you’re visiting the Castle & Ball, I hope you’re lucky enough to be served by Gregory—you’ll be in excellent hands.
