Run-Down, Far Below Acceptable Standard, Well Past The Name Of the Hotel. The Great Western Let-down
I am advising you all to express my disappointment with the booking we had at The Great Western Hotel - Oban which we booked through Booking.com. The photo's on Booking.com website look lovely but once you enter the hotel its a different story and we paid £113.98 for the night which included breakfast.
When we arrived at the hotel we were advised that we would have to pay an additional £10 for the parking and that's if there are any spaces on the forecourt. We were asked for our debit card which they scanned to pay for the parking charge and to cover any damages, again this was ok as we don't go around damaging things but it looks like someone had already damaged everything before we arrived.
We were given our room key and we made our way to the room, we opened the door and we were utterly gobsmacked as this was not the room on the website which we paid for. The walls had damp coming through the paper, the windows were mouldy, the carpet was threadbare, the bathroom was no better the wallpaper was hanging down from the ceiling, there was mould all around the bath, the shower curtain was mouldy, the toilet had a crack in it, the window was not obscure glass and the curtain was being held up with curtain wire that had stretched overtime and was hanging down in the middle.
We went back down to reception which isn't the glamourous one on the website by the way and the current one looks rundown, we spoke with Stefano that we are going to check out as the room is not what we expected, he said why what is wrong with the room, we said that it isn't the room we booked on Booking.com. and we are not staying. He took us to another room which he deemed was better but it was just as bad as our first room. we again said no and we were going to check out, Stefano said I have another room to show you which is much better but you will have to pay an extra £35.
This room was just as bad as there were damp patches on the ceiling with mould, the bathroom shower was cracked. The table base was rusty, the window had a crack in it and tape was used to hold it in place, by this time we had had enough so we dropped the bags and went out for something to eat, and we were both checking Booking.com and the hotels website and we kept saying we are at the right hotel aren't we? We must be as they had our booking on their system, so we finished our food and went back to our hotel room.
We couldn't stay here it was just too dirty and run down so we went back to reception to check out. The girl behind the desk said but we have offered you a different room what is up with this room, by this time we were so fed up we showed her the room we booked through Booking.com and she had the nerve to say we have those rooms but they are all booked out, she had the audacity to say we only charged you £20 for the upgrade rather than the £35, to add insult to injury she then said if you check out will not give you a refund as its non-refundable.
I asked to speak to the manager but he was not available, how convenient and she said Stefano will call you tomorrow morning and two days have passed and no phone call or no response to my four emails that i had sent to the hotel. They strangely send you a text to the following website eu.canarytechnologies.com (Bespoke Hotels),
Please avoid The Great Western Hotel - Oban and look on tripadvisor.com for reviews before you book as there are lots of hotels to choose from in Oban,

Not to be repeated
The less said about this experience in public, the better.
Our stay was fully pre-paid via Booking.com
I will NOT say the receptionist's demand to 'skim' my card again out of sight was deeply suspicious, but I was well aware of my bank's and card provider's strong advice on this topic..... and refused.
Other visitors were less wary and more trusting.
My repeated request for access to the Duty Manager was refused.
Our stay was fully pre-paid via Booking.com

Awful tired worn out mess

First hotel I’ve ever refused to stay in.
The hotel is clearly in need of some
Serious investment in pretty much every area.
My mistake was to book bespoke hotels which so far on this trip have been very good.
Oban has an acute shortage of hotels in peak season so this was expensive for what was ultimate less than a bunkhouse for thirty pounds a night but they charged me one hundred and thirty.

Awful
Dreadful - bears no resemblance to the website photos. Chaotic check-in, dreadful bedroom and bathroom - do not stay here.

Warning about poorly kept hotel not worth a star.
The most miserable hotel, which so much needs maintenance or a bulldozer. Purity is not at the top either!
