Drinks
Popped in for a drink, nice old pub, lots of locals which is always a good sign. Main issue is the poor bar man was on his own, checking in guests and trying to serve drinks and change barrels so we had to wait about 15 minutes for a drink. Feel an extra member of staff on a busier Friday early evening would be massively helpful as nice pub and drinks and would have happily stayed for a few more. Nice atmosphere.

Disgusting and unresponsive
Do not use this accommodation – we had lots of trouble and a disgusting experience, and despite raising it directly with the hotel, we’ve not had any reply.
First, upon arrival, we were told we had no booking, and there was no accommodation available. This was very alarming, late in the evening on a Saturday, hours away from home. I explained that we had made a reservation directly via yourself a week or so before, and had both emailed and tried calling repeatedly to update the Inn as to our arrival time, but received no response.
We were then told there was a cottage but it wasn't ready yet. We were shown to the cottage, which lacked a television (it had been given to another cottage, we were informed) and clearly was airing following a smoking guest (despite the no smoking signs), which made for a very unpleasant experience.
The cleaning process also hadn't been completed or had been completed poorly - the toilet had faeces stains, and there were other bits of litter around the cottage (see photos). There was one fan in the whole property, and it was unusable due to the ridiculously loud noise it made - see attached video. There was no soap, either for the sink or for the shower (although there was a half-used one on the mantelpiece we found the next morning...).
The accommodation itself was subpar and in need of updating. For example, the cold water tap in the kitchen, and the hot water tap in the bathroom, barely worked. The cottage was not well kept, with the front courtyard being significantly overgrown.
When we checked out the following morning, the gentleman on the desk noted we hadn't even been checked in on the system.
Thankfully, we were only staying one night, but this level of standard and service is not acceptable for £180..!

DON'T!!!
Booked two nights b+b on the 2nd and 3rd oct for a quiet break before my wife's heart operation on the following monday absolutely no chance of that, hardly had wink of sleep both nights due to the managers shouting screaming and throwing things about from midnight till 4.30 am, which is probably why they weren't available to do breakfast in the morning which we had paid for. The pub is so run down it's shocking holes in the bedroom walls broken light fittings a dirty. The bar was closing at 8.30 even though we were still sitting there, the toilets in the bar are awful everything in a terrible state of repair. And if you try and get in touch with wks think again I've emailed them on numerous occasions but haven't had one reply. Thornton le dale is a beautiful place please don't spoil your break by staying here do your research and read the reviews

Unpleasant!!!!!
The worst welcome ever. The manager Andy was aggressively rude. We had booked for24 people giving them 5 days notice. When we arrived it was closed. Very unprepared, no hospitality at all. When challenged he started raising his voice getting aggressive then told us all to leave. The place was grubby so he did us all a favour. We will be contacting the brewery and informing him of his behaviour. How he can treat anyone in this way is disgraceful especially as 80% were pensioners.

A joke place close it down.
Needs closing down until they can get enough competent staff. We stayed two nights, the rooms were clean and comfortable but the dining room had cobwebs all over the window cills and the bar seating was covered in dust. They obviously had not got enough competent staff and the manager was miserable and did not say good morning to my husband who said it several times. Everyone had to have breakfast at 8.30 which we thought was too early. Breakfast had to be ordered the night before which we do not like. At 8.30 twelve of us turned up for breakfast but we saw no one. The were a few cereal brands available but no dishes or spoons and no milk, the apples on the dish were competely rotten with a couple of apples. Manager finally appeared and we asked for some dishes etc. Nothing happened half an hour later my husband went to the kitchen and helped himself to a dish and I went and got some spoons, no one in kitchen and still no milk or spoons. Everyone was distgusted and it became a laugh. After 1 hr and 5 mins someone brought out our cooked breakfast. No vegetarian available, no choice of milk and no decaf coffee dispite being next door to two shops. My husband went and bought some and we made it in the room. There was no apology, no toast, muffins or pastries after. No one could care less and if they couldn't manage to serve people within a reasonable time why did we all have to be there for 8.30. Some people walked out. I think we deserved a refund for such dreadful treatment.
Also the village did not seem to like visitors. Both pubs closed at 9pm on Sunday, non of them did meals on that day so we had to go by car to another pub just on edge of Pickering, think it was Bulls head. The people were very unfriendly when we went to book a table for that evening. Would not even let us sit at a free table for a drink until the people who had booked turned up. They really did not want us there.
The whole experience was of complete unwelcome atmosphere who don't deserve any visitors anytime. We will not be going to that village again in a rush.
The pub had a great history as it was the place where Dick Turpin was arrested but we only knew by a plaque at the back of the premises. Please owners close it down and get it sorted out.
