Absolutely delighted with my stay at the Star Hotel!

I'd never stayed at the Star Hotel before, but chose it as I got a good deal on Booking.com. even booking last minute.
The Star is in an excellent location, just a short walk from the Bargate. It is a grade 2 listed building and dates from the 18th century when it was a coaching inn. This can be seen from the large entrance at the front of the hotel.
I'd describe the hotel as unique and a bit quirky in a positive way. You have to pass through the dining room to get to rooms which are in the "new wing".
There was a problem with the lock on my door which wouldn't lock, so I reported it to the guy on duty called Aady. the hotel's Operations Manager. He noticed I was carrying my laptop as I hadn't wanted to leave it in an unlocked room, and offered to store it in a secure location. By the time I got back from my evening meal, I had another room. Such outstanding care and customer service.
I slept like a log - unusual for me on a first night in a new bed. The bed was very comfortable and the room very attractive and well maintained. The bathroom / shower was at a wee bit small, but I'm quite well-built. I managed perfectly well. The shower was a lovely temperature.
I decided to have breakfast at the hotel. It costs £8.95 if you book on arrival, very competitive with the Spoons next door, and you get to choose which items you want in their English breakfast selection and also the quantities. A lady called Mags was the main host. She was absolutely charming and really made me feel welcome.
The Star has its own car park. I used a bus as transport to Albion Place which is literally round the corner from the hotel.
I didn't know what to expect when I booked my hotel. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

My single room wasn't great, noisy at night and very hot though a fan was provided. Basin tap all wobbly and the fixtures were generally in need of attention. However, the breakfast was really nice, way better than many hotels and the staff at breakfast were helpful. Glad I only stayed one night.

rooms were excellent, staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was excellent but didn`t use the bar.

Room did not have Air Con, which made for a hot nights sleep and the fan provided in the room was quite loud to leave on. Then the old style sash wooden windows had one broken piece of rope so I was reluctant to open the window in case it would close properly again. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.

The hotel is on a high St, and the woman n does are not double glazed. On a Tuesday night you could hear fighting and screaming until 03:00 in the morning.
