Steak pie Sunday braised beef… with apple pie for pud. Delicious!

Ideal place for a relaxing Sunday lunch, delicious honest home style food made with care and the best homegrown ingredients. Staff were welcoming and service was prompt, wine was smooth by and the fires made it very cosy an a blustery rainy afternoon. Great value for money.

Sunday Lunch

Absolutely Fabulous Sunday lunch and great value for money. Visited 2nd February and already booked for another visit, two of us had the pork and two the braised beef, both were beautifully cooked and presented with a superb selection of veg, kale (which is unusual), creamed carrots, roasted parsnips and potatoes. There other menu was also available but we were recommended to try the roasts. You won't be disappointed, highly recommended beautiful surroundings too with a lovely atmosphere and very helpful and attentive staff.

Thank you for your glowing review — we're so pleased to hear that your Sunday lunch with us was such a success.
It’s wonderful to know that both the pork and braised beef were enjoyed, and that the selection of vegetables — especially the kale and creamed carrots — added something special to the meal. We’re glad our team’s recommendation to try the roasts lived up to expectations!
Your kind words about the atmosphere, surroundings, and attentive service mean a great deal to us. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon for another fabulous visit.

What a gem!

A warm welcoming embrace of an old fashioned country inn. Homely and relaxed at atmosphere.
Excellent range of quality, well kept ales ,beers and wines.
Expected a standard pub grub menu.
Was totally wrong , the food and service went way beyond that. As close to Michelin as is possible without actual award.
An initiative menu. Local producted, organically raised beef , bacon and lamb.
Our beef just melted in the mouth. Real rich gravy.
Fresh from the field vegetables. Each coures had the Wow factor on presentation and flavors. Csnnot praise it high enough.
Room was very clean, tasteful decor, with lots of little period details. Shower and toilet clean. Well stocked with fluffy towels and toiletries.
High rised, comfortable, cosy bed.
Real coffee machine and hot drinks provided.
Great nights sleep. Full English breakfast, perfection. Set us both up for the dsy
Many thanks to Triss snd her team.

Thank you so much for this truly heartwarming and detailed review. We're absolutely delighted that your experience at The Carden Arms was such a memorable one — from the warm welcome and atmosphere to the food, drink, and accommodation.
It’s incredibly rewarding to hear that our menu exceeded expectations and that the quality of our locally sourced, organically raised produce shone through in both flavour and presentation. Your kind words about the beef, vegetables, and rich gravy are a real tribute to our kitchen team’s passion and care.
We’re equally pleased that your room provided comfort and charm, and that the thoughtful touches — from the coffee machine to the fluffy towels — helped make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. A great night’s sleep followed by a perfect breakfast is exactly what we hope every guest experiences.
Thank you again for your generous praise and for recognising Trish and the team — it means the world to us. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon.

Drinking pub not an eating pub! Overpriced food!

How very disappointing! We were asked to pre order our lunch time meal and book a time to eat due to being part of a larger party - 9 people in total. As instructed we all sent our menu choices via email 2 days before attending. On arrival we were greeted by a lady explaining that they had a new person working in the kitchen and our orders had not been passed on in preparation for our arrival? We were then told that that menu we had all chosen from is now not on offer today, but we do have another menu! Having been shown to our dining table at 1.45pm we were issued with a totally different menu to choose from, and then told two choices were not available on that one! We then all proceeded to order our food, and finally ate about 45 mins later! The beef was reported to be very tough on the sandwich, the fish finger butty was a very strange mix of fish, cod fried, salmon fried pieces and the cheese toastie reported to be rather sickly. On paying for our meal we were quite shocked that the bill came to over £30 for a toastie, a fish finger butty, one portion of chips and 4 onion rings!!! Sadly, more of a drinking pub than an eating pub!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're genuinely sorry to hear that your recent visit didn’t meet expectations, particularly around the pre-ordering process and the unexpected menu changes. We understand how disappointing this must have been, especially when dining as part of a larger group.
The Carden Arms has long been known as a traditional country pub with a strong drinks offering — and we’re proud of that. However, over the past few months, we’ve made significant strides in elevating our food experience under new kitchen leadership. Our focus is now firmly on delivering high-quality, locally sourced dishes that reflect the care and character of our pub.
While we regret that your visit didn’t reflect the standard we now strive for, we’d love the opportunity to make it right. Please do get in touch with Sam directly at sam@cardenarms.co.uk — he would be delighted to personally book you in and ensure your next experience with us is one to truly enjoy.
Thank you again for your feedback — it’s invaluable in helping us grow.
