Bikers on Tour - Overall an OK stay
On arrival parked on the street at the rear of the hotel which ironically is where the entrance is and were given our room keys, I was allocated Room 31 which is top floor furthest away from the lift, due to it being at the pointy end of the property, and in the roof, every roof sloped and all the curtains therefore were held back as they sloped as well, see photo, so not the best start, first thing was to have a shower which is over the bath, well that roof sloped as well, so much in fact that the shower curtain is around 18 inches along the bath then you hook it on the sloping ceiling, crazy.
Then there was only tepid water coming out, so needing a shower that's what I had.
Went down to the bar for a drink and reported the water issue to the manager who said it would be fixed. A while later he informed me it had been.
Had a table booked for dinner and Graeme who does have a sort of charm about him took us through where I ordered the half a lobster, and it was pretty good, not the best I've had but no complaints. Sadly a group of around 20 arrived in the restaurant shortly after us so we did not sit there that long after the meal.
Went back to room, still cold water. Manager came up and agreed and said he'd fix it and I could go to the bar and have a complimentary drink, however I asked for a new room, which after some arrangements he moved me to room 38, which was fine, comfy twin bed, plenty of pillows and again a shower over the bath but ample hot water. And, see photo, because the roof slopes, so do the curtains!!!!
Breakfast was very acceptable, ample choice and good portions.
check-in and checkout was simple, however no mention of compensation for the issue that I had, yes I did move room but at 21:45 at night, not the thing that you wish to be doing.
Would I stay there again, maybe but I'd want a room that looked like some of the photos on here and the website, definitely not on floor 3. Mine certainly did not match up to those. My mates had rooms on lower floors and were perfectly happy, except for one that had a room at the end of the hotel and therefore experience road noise.

A couple of small points of clarification for future guests: our main entrance is at the front of the hotel and small doubles are only for single occupancy and charged at a different rate to the full double rate of £180 B&B. It’s also worth noting that bookings made through online travel agencies carry around 20% in commission on top of our rates — booking directly with us is always the best-value option.
Our top-floor rooms do have characterful sloping ceilings as part of the building’s original roofline — we appreciate they’re not to everyone’s taste, and we’re always happy to note a preference for a lower floor at the time of booking. We hope to welcome you back and get it right first time, hope you had a great trip round the NC500! Ellie
