management and unit were fantastic

We stayed in Bologna for 2 1/2 weeks for work. i masCa's manager was fantastic. She went well over the call of duty helping us with small things (getting to a pharmacy, helping find celiac friendly restaurants, etc.) The space was clean, efficient, and perfect for our needs. I recommend it 100%

Fabulous Experience

We stayed 6 nights in one of these wonderful apartments. Maria Elisa was beyond exceptionally helpful. My husband is allergic to fragrances, so she located a special dry cleaner to launder the linens for us so they would be 100% smell free (which they were)! She also arranged pick-up for us at the airport and provided a wealth of information about good restaurants and shops near the apartment. The apartment itself had everything we needed (nice kitchenette, washing machine, couch, table and chairs, and a bedroom with ample storage). It was very clean and the bedroom was quiet (it was in the back off a little courtyard). The front of the apartment faced via Mascarella and it was a bit loud with the windows open (we were on the first floor), but once the windows were closed it was fine.
There was a solotube (skylight tube) in the bedroom and it took us a while to discover that you could "dim" it using a switch on the wall (with little up and down arrows). I wish it could have been turned off completely (we like a pitch black room), but we were able to dim it enough that it didn't disrupt sleep very much.
We are vegetarian and found that Estravagario (just down the street) was very good for lunch. We also ate at Cento3cento twice (relatively inexpensive and very tasty take-out), Risto' Pallotti was also very good (we had lunch there twice) -- the green tortelloni with buffolo mozzarella was yummy.
The apartment was nicely located near lots of shops and restaurants. I would zip around the corner to the small Meta mini-market to purchase bottled water, and sometimes went next door to the small bakery/cafe to grab a pastry for breakfast. It was close enough to walk to the historic city center for sightseeing.

Good times in Bologna

We stayed in I MasCa apartments the end of May on the 1st floor in a lovely apartment which is wheelchair friendly with everything you need to enjoy a stay in Bologna. There is a lift which has its idiosyncrasies. The apartment is managed by Maria Elisa who is very helpful and obliging and is on the premises during working hours. We would recommend a bus from the Airport to the main train station and a taxi from there. The main living area is very spacious with open plan kitchen, living and a large dining table. The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, electric rings and a micro wave oven ( no oven ). The apartment was very quiet with a choice of 3 good Supermarkets within five minutes walking distance and an Asian market 30 metres away.We liked Bologna, especially the Gelateria ( ice cream parlour ) Cremeria Funivia on Pizza Cavour which is well worth the queue. There are not as many “Big sights” as you would find in Verona or Florence but the Two Towers, the Duomo and Bologna's main square, Piazza Maggiore will keep you interested. Bologna is also a good hub for trains to Florence, Modena, Ferrara, Rimini etc. Italian trains are clean and come on time. They are very cheap if you are travelling within a region but more expensive if your travel is intercity. Check out the Italian train site www.trenitalia.com for details.

Great apartment and excellent location.

I rented an apartment here for 3 weeks during an extended stay in the lovely town of Bologna and was so pleased with the accommodation. Modern and well equipped. Walking distance to all major sights.
Maria Elisa and Ansamma were always extremely helpfully with any request or question I had. I would definitely return to I masCá for future visits and have recommended these apartments to my family and friends.

Great value, convenient location, fine amenities

We rented for 3 nights and got a great rate, due to a last minute cancellation. During major trade shows, accommodation prices in Bologna can triple (including at this residence), yet we paid only 80 E/ night during the big March Book Fair.
The apartment was huge and well equipped for long stays: Ironing board, clothes drying rack, etc etc etc. The décor is a bit Spartan - a few knick-knacks would warm up the atmosphere. But the essentials were brilliant - including one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. The kitchen and bath were brand new and, like the rest of the apartment, absolutely spotless. The nearby mini-supermarket supplied us with nice ingredients for breakfasts and one dinner.
Others have commented on the quietness of the apartments that face the courtyard. On reflection, I would probably opt next time for a unit that faces the street. Via Mascarelli is not noisy and I found the courtyard view a bit dead: I want to see some street life and be reminded I'm in Bologna, not at home!
The beautiful Maria Elissa, who met us and showed us over the apartment, is the epitome of kindness and hospitality. She had even prepared a package of brochures, to go with her restaurant recommendations and other tourist information. Her English, polished during her university years in Edinburgh, is excellent.
We were able to walk from the train station ( a leisurely 15 minutes, though you could walk it in 10) and also walked to all the major sites in the historic centre.
I have no hesitation to recommend these apartments to visitors, for short or longer stays.
